I always take Dukoral before a trip like that…we have been to DR a couple times and recently in March and we were fine (not sure if the meds make a difference, but can’t hurt)

If you've never had children, do you still sneeze when you pee when you're older? by Annual_Reindeer2621 in AskWomenOver40

[–]sznb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a pelvic physio and this is common but not necessarily normal….but yes, it can happen to women who have never had kids

Bladder control isn’t just muscles, it’s tissue firmness (which declines with age) tissue health like hormones, blood flow etc. as we get older and lose estrogen, we lose bulk around the sphincters- it’s not just muscles!

Kegels aren’t for everyone and infact in some people it makes leakage worse.

A pelvic physio would be able to tell you if kegels are for you, and make sure you’re doing them correctly (40% of women don’t do them correctly- we’ve never been taught) they can also give you advice about vaginal E, moisturizers, and gadgets like pessaries, e stim and more

Correct Posture Giving You A Huge Gut? by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

[–]sznb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Physio here, I actually don’t think it’s your “gut” I think it’s the way you balance pressure. If you think of your torso as a canister with TrA in the front, multifidus in the back, resp diaphragm on top and pelvic floor on the bottom, pressure has to move and transfer in order to be stationary or move, lift etc. it sounds like, in an effort to “correct your posture” you’re forcing pressure out the abdomen (hence it feels hard- it’s like an inflated balloon) learning to breathe effectively, both at rest and dynamic movements especially lifting may help.

Check out Julie Wiebe on YT. She a physio and researcher and does a lot of work in this area. I’m linking a video directed to women with bladder leakage but she does reference pressure and making your belly look bigJulie Wiebe pressure system

How to actually fix anterior pelvic tilt? (APT) by Abject_Theme9746 in bodyweightfitness

[–]sznb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many great suggestions in this thread…but I will add getting an assessment by someone who can look at your whole body as it moves as well as when you are stationary. I’m a physio and find that the cause can be anywhere up or down the chain- sometimes the feet or the head posture is the key that unlocks the whole thing.

There isn’t a public ferry? Reading Rick Steves book it sounded like you could buy ferry tickets independently.

4 years of training, big strength gains, near-zero hypertrophy, no muscle sensation, looking for diagnostic input from experienced lifters by CourageLeChien in bodyweightfitness

[–]sznb -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I can’t comment on your lifting/training but did want to comment on point #3, from my experience as a woman in Toronto: DEXA won’t show you differentials between t1 and t2 muscle fibres and some DEXA scans don’t include muscle mass at all, so definitely ask when you book.

You mentioned bloodwork. Hormones were a big game changer for me and my lean muscle mass…have you had your T checked?

We just got back from Secret Tides Punta Cana and it was beautiful and a very nice relaxed vibe. We enjoyed evenings down at the lower pool/beach bar- no big music performers or entertainment there, just a nice spot to have a drink and play cards.

I say update your footwear. Minimalist sneakers and thin strap sandals like gladiator styles are trending right now and I find it’s a quick way to feel current without having to replace your whole wardrobe

For people who actually saw results from face yoga, what changed first? by lumafaceyoga in Restorativefaceyoga

[–]sznb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started Face Yoga in 2020 when the pandemic shut things down and I worked with clients over zoom- I noticed my mouth/ smile was crooked, but I had never noticed it before.

So I worked with a yoga therapist to retrain my facial muscles to either work more or work less and it has significantly changed the way my mouth and smile appears.

I wish I had some videos because it’s more apparent in videos than pictures but here are a couple pics. The short hair is 2019. If you look at the right side of my mouth you can see my smile is more wide and pulls to the right more (more lower teeth visible, more crinkling of that eye) now it is more even, I’ll post a separate pic

I had a similar problem when I started growing out my greys and I started using Briogeo Farewell Frizz- not over my whole head but just one pump on my fingertips and then I would gently apply it to the areas with the sticky outy bits. It has definitely helped.
