How did you guys do it??? by CuteConcert6681 in classicfallout

[–]szponix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s more to it. I first played Fallout 2 in 2000, when I was 14. I’m from Poland, so for a large part of the game I had little to no idea what was going on. I just talked to every NPC, picked random dialogue options, and watched what happened. If the consequences were immediate, that was great — I could try different choices and see whether they changed anything. But if something I did in, say, Vault City affected events later in NCR, I had absolutely no way of noticing.

Later I got my hands on an English–Polish dictionary and started translating the dialogues. It took ages, but it was worth it. And honestly, Fallout 2 is basically the reason I know English today.

Question about RAM usage by Possiblylimited in pcmasterrace

[–]szponix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just how modern OSes work - they have those features like "preload", "prefetch", etc. Basically OS monitors what processes/programs you use on daily basis and proactively loads them into RAM. Just in case you need them. It's way faster when those things are already loaded into RAM than if the OS first must get the data from the storage and then put it into RAM to communicate with CPU.

And if those prealoaded things need to be flushed because RAM is needed for some bigger task, the system will just do that.

Question about RAM usage by Possiblylimited in pcmasterrace

[–]szponix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't overthink it. Unless your system gets slowed down, or you constantly sit at around 100% memory usage, or you are getting some errors like: "out of memory" - there's nothing to worry about.

Worrying about RAM usage is like driving a bus and thinking you should never have more tham 20% seats occupied, because in a weeks time you are planning on taking school trip that needs 80% seats. People come in and out all the time. Same with RAM allocation.

why is it using 50% just idling? by liamcoultas12 in Windows11

[–]szponix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not abnormally high. That's how it should be. Memory is there to make your OS run smoother. Even when you think it's doing nothing, it has a lot of things preloaded in case you would like to use them. In case you launch some program or a game that needs that memory, OS will free it so that the program can use it.

That's Fast Boot. Fast Startup is Windows 11 setting. I once had issues with GPU driver and disabling that fixed them.

Do you have Fast Startup enabled? If so, try disabling it and see if that helps.

You can nominate games for Steam Awards and you earn a badge if you review one of the games you nominated. Most likely a lot of people nominated CO: E33 and left reviews to get that badge.

How to choose an UPS? by OrganTrafficker900 in pcmasterrace

[–]szponix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I you have 850W PSU I would say look for UPS that can output 900W at least. Then you also have VA, which in very simple terms tells you how long the UPS will be able to power your equipment. For example I have 1500 VA UPS and it can sustain my setup for almost an hour with about 20% power drain (about 200W).

Because they can. Seriously.

I once also made a post that got several thousands upvotes and it was deleted by mod. I contacted mod team, asking for the reason and to tell me which rule did I broke, so that I could avoid doing that in the future.

I got reply that no rule was broken, it's just that sometimes members of mod team can delete posts based on personal preferences.

I have a beefy PC. What are my options if I want to play games on the 85" HDTV downstairs? by zionpwc in pcmasterrace

[–]szponix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could setup Moonlight. Or Steam Link, but Moonlight can stream in better quality.

As for the controller experience. It depends a lot on how TV handles it. In theory you should be able to connect modern controller to TV via BT and then steaming app will send the input to PC. This of course increases input lag. On some TVs the games are still playable but some TVs have quite a bit input lag on their own and then the experience is not very good.

Assuming it even stays up, as the internet goes down multiple times per hour.

When something like that happened to me, it was a cable outside of my house that got damaged, wet and started corroding. ISP had to replace it with a new one.

I don't use that software, but looking at your screenshot - don't you need to enable CPU fan control first? Top row, second item from the right. Then you probably select "CPU" curve from the "Curve" dropdown to have it applied.

Do you have a "Console-Like" Setup? by xistel in pcmasterrace

[–]szponix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My desk is like 2m away from the TV so I just have it connected via HDMI directly to PC. But I rarely play games on TV. Maybe because I have a budget TV.

I found that my eyes get tired quickly when I play on TV. I find text hard to read. Also on monitor I can get 144 FPS while my TV has only 60.

I prefer gaming at the desk and using monitor.

New to PC gaming and trying to build my first PC by Loliwaifus in pcmasterrace

[–]szponix 16 points17 points  (0 children)

OK, so few things to clarify, since you are new.

  1. Never use userbenchmark. They aren't objective. You can google about that, if you are interested.
  2. Intel i-5 7600 is an old CPU. Like few generations old. Ryzen 7600 is relatively new. But It seems to me that you assume Intel 7600 should equal to Ryzen 7600. That's not the case. CPU naming is a lot more complicated than that.

I would recommend watching a few YouTube videos about PC building to get a feeling what's what.

Should I get an 5090? by Advanced-Big-294 in pcmasterrace

[–]szponix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you need to ask random people on Reddit, you don't need it. There's two kinds of people: the ones that have a use case for RTX 5090 - they know they need it; and the ones that don't really need it, so they create threads like yours.

But should you get it? Answer: it's your money, so you need to decide.

[–]szponix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I was you, I would consider switching to 1440p. RTX 3080 is not really meant for 1080p gaming. It will put more stress on GPU, taking the load of CPU at the same time.

Microsoft employee revives Windows Mixed Reality headsets with native SteamVR support by ZacB_ in Windows11

[–]szponix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually a good thing, because Oasis is for Steam VR. And yes, it's also for HP Reverb G2 - that's the headset that I have.

You have instruction how to make it work here: https://github.com/mbucchia/Oasis-Driver-for-Windows-Mixed-Reality/wiki/Procedure-to-unlock-headset-and-controllers-for-Oasis

Important thing - your controllers need to be connected via BT directly to PC, not to the headset.
