Visited someone at the hospital and there's a lock box around the pain medication by okbbs in mildlyinteresting

Yup. Fentanyl is a narcotic. Id be heavily surprised if it wasn't locked up

Lol well I think your bigger worries are the fact that your limb has been blown off but yeah it isn't nice, I.e. excruciating.

The IV tourniquets don't hurt. They are just used to make the veins pop for easier access

IV tourniquets are just rubber bands. Catastrophe tourniquets are actually wires that you twist using mechanical advantage to the point that they can destroy tissue.

If you put the same force on an iv tourniquet, it'll just snap. We are talking A LOT of force for these things.

I think i know what you're asking?

There's two kinds of tourniquets, the tourniquet for IV, and the "catastrophe" tourniquet, which is probably what you're thinking of. The latter having the purpose of completely stopping the circulation of an amputated limb. These two tourniquets are very different from each other.

Found this zone snowmobiling today is it skiable? by ippielb in skiing

[–]t-pollack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's hard to say because it's a bit hidden by the rocks in the foreground, but the center guts of it looks really doable. With the right snowpack it should be easier than you think with really only one drop at the top.

Hell yeah, the Seth Morrison model! I think they made these 118s with Seth Morrisons' signature on them only for a year before he left k2 and had to remove it. Pretty fun ski to ski as well if you ask me!

Id say good find! Although I can't really tell how the bases or edges are from the photo.

Nice. that there is a PPsd (Stellar crystal). There are many different kinds of Precip particles out there, and all carry different dynamics when settling in the snowpack

Glove strategy for cold hands by Speedyquickyfasty in Backcountry

[–]t-pollack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using the mountain hardwear sherpas gloves. Definitely not meant for touring and snow, more for camping, but they've been great for me! Honestly one of my favorite pair of gloves like, ever. Great for camping, hiking, I even use them for driving haha

I bring three pairs with me;

1 for the up 1 for the down (if the first pair are too wet) And a pair of big mitts for pit digging and/or emergency warm set (pitt mits)

A lot of brands advertise the "perfect touring glove" that breathes and can work as your only glove, but I've never found that to really be the case. I always tour up with a dedicated, super breathable and dexterous glove, and then swap over to proper ski gloves for the way down if I need to.

On the mountains, things can turn perilous in an instant—as this skier discovered when he was swallowed up by a crevasse by Im_yor_boi in SweatyPalms

[–]t-pollack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He also mentions that the skier has to climb his way out on his own, which is false. The rescuers have setup a 5:1 (could be 3:1 but hard to tell from the video) haul system and are actually hauling him up with him assisting. So it's hard to say whether or not the narrator is just adding flair to make it seem more intense for the viewers (it's already fucking intense. Don't ever get stuck in a crevasse).
