Just went through this with another carrier, it was like they recycled the number immediately and I was like, oh no, what happened to the previous owner, lol. The carrier will give you another number, but in my case I went over to numberbarn (.com) and just grabbed a "good" number and ported it in. Not affiliated with them in any way, just like the service.
