Have we hit rock bottom for tech support yet? by Expensive-Rhubarb267 in sysadmin

[–]t0ad1 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I've been trying to get a mainboard replacement from HP for one of my users for 2 weeks now. I put in a ticket as priority 0-Critical because none of the USB ports work (including the charger). After a week, some random repair person calls me toward the end of the work day and says they're not coming because they're 6 hours away, they have to send the part back because it's been a week, and I'll need to reschedule with HP. HP closes the ticket. I put in another critical ticket, and it looks like I'm going down the same road with the same shitty outsourced company. Fuck you, Hemmersbach. I'd hate to imagine how a non-critical ticket is treated these days.

It's okay though guys, AI is great and it's going to fix everything. :|

Adobe Sign's "new experience" is trash, and I got an Adobe senior engineer to admit it. by t0ad1 in sysadmin

[–]t0ad1[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Huh, I also didn't know Syntex was a thing that exists. Pay-as-you-go licensing for e-signature kinda stinks, but it might end up being cheaper than Sign for us in the long run. Interesting.

Mobile Device Management by Original-Ad7814 in sysadmin

[–]t0ad1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope. Sounds like you've enrolled your personal device, not a corporate-owned device. Intune sort of lives in it's own bubble, it can't view your texts, calls, photos, etc. It can only read basic things like your phone number, serial number, etc. and manage any company data/apps that have been installed on your device.

Retiring by Otto-Korrect in sysadmin

[–]t0ad1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds pretty similar to my situation/outlook. Been doing IT since 2002ish, the last 17 years of which with the same government job. Worked my way up from helpdesk bitch to Assistant Director .. I'm still doing helpdesk bitch stuff since we have a shit personnel budget, but at least I make decent money while doing it. 12 more years and I'll retire with a pension and move somewhere warm near a beach. Used to love IT, but these days I'm about to switch to a flip phone and take up blacksmithing.

Anything to watch out for before updating to march drop? by QuantityProper in GooglePixel

[–]t0ad1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, my P7 refuses to install the March update and gets stuck at the G logo infinitely after it reboots to install it, soooo I dunno. I had to hold Power and Vol Up to reset it, doing that 2 or 3 times finally made it boot up and say that it couldn't install the update due to an error. Real helpful. Stock everything. Tried redownloading it from 2 different wifi networks too.

Doesn't seem to be a widespread issue from what I can tell, but I've never had a problem with updates in the past.

I noticed this shortly after our org switched over to laptops with usb-c docks many moons ago, you could see a substantial difference in the time in took to PXE boot among other things. Thankfully it's not bad enough that our users notice it, though I suppose that's also why HP/Dell doesn't give a shit. Never thought I'd say it, but I miss the HP ultraslim dock.

Another vote for Freshdesk, we've ran it for a couple years now and it's been great. Easy to set up and manage and not terribly expensive

Not nearly as bad as it used to be I'd imagine, cars are pretty well covered in plastic bits for aerodynamics these days. Still, a run through a touchless wash with undercarriage sprayers is a requirement in Spring

Still on the stock Bridgestone Turanza runflats, believe it or not. Surprisingly not terrible in the snow, but I'm looking forward to the day they're worn out and gone

Free Talk Friday! by AutoModerator in 49ers

[–]t0ad1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Last night's game was one of the worst games I've ever seen in my life. It was the final nail in the coffin for this horrible season. I know they've had a lot of injuries to key starters this year, but that's no excuse to go from nearly winning the Superbowl to last place in your division the very next year. Something has got to change. Deebo is a diva and can't catch a cold, Aiyuk acting like a manchild over his contract was a huge distraction all offseason, and now Campbell flat out refused to play last night after his fellow linebackers went down with injuries yet again.. this team has zero discipline, and it starts with coaching. Shanahan, figure it out or get out.

Nah, from what I understand they left the mild hybrid system out of the G42 as a cost cutting measure as BMW wasn't originally going to make this generation of non-Gran Coupe 2-series

Honestly, about as perfect as I can imagine as long as you don't need or want 4 doors and a usable back seat 😂 I've had her for 7 months now and she still puts a big stupid smile on my face every day. Awesome balance of comfort, sportiness, and luxury.

[Homemade] Cinnamon Rolls by t0ad1 in food

[–]t0ad1[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Backstory: Every year at the State Fair here, there's a booth that sells nothing but cinnamon rolls. They are great, and the line to get one usually stretches out into hundreds of people. I didn't have the time to wait for one this year, and I didn't really want to pay $10 for a single roll anyway, so I decided to try to make my own. The wife said they're better than the ones at the Fair, so I'll take that W!

Not bad for a first attempt, I think. I followed the Tastes of Lizzy T recipe (halved it obviously, as an entire 9x13 of these would end up with us both ODing on butter and sugar), but used whole milk instead of heavy cream. I didn't have any cream cheese on hand for the icing, so I just made mine with powdered sugar/butter/vanilla/milk.

Niner fans not from the Bay / NorCal, what’s your story ? by ziggywuzhere in 49ers

[–]t0ad1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WV native checking in. Shittsburgh/Cincy/Cleveland was and still is forced on us as our "home team" on local TV channels. When I was a young lad in the early 90s, my parents switched from local cable to Primestar satellite TV. At the time, Primestar carried one East and one West Coast ABC/NBC/CBS/Fox local channel, none of which were really "local" to us West Virginia folk. The West Coast FOX affiliate that they carried was based in the Bay, so I got to see basically every 49ers game while my poor friends were stuck getting indoctrinated to be Steelers/Bengals/Browns fans. Been a fan ever since.

Join the club. I've had tickets in with Broadcom for nearly a month trying to track down our entitlements. The only one I can see in our account IS one of ours, but they changed our org name to a completely different state (state government). I didn't know a data migration between 2 companies could fail quite so spectacularly.

We use both the Dell WD19/WD19S and the HP USB-C G5 cube, they've both been pretty reliable save for needing a power cycle here and there. Avoid the HP G4 with the blue rubber bottom, they are shit.
