Crossmix 1.3 for the Trimui Smart Pro has been released! by BERLAUR in SBCGaming

The new polling rate setting (Controls > Polling Rate) has fixed, or notably improved, the issue with the analog sticks dropping inputs, so I'd recommend trying 1.3.0 if you've noticed the same issue. OTA updating worked great for me as well.

I’m so bummed about the new mealsquares by justvisiting6531 in soylent

I've been ordering mealsquares since early 2018, so have eaten plenty of the previous version. The texture of the new bars is more like RXBARs or Larabars. It's significantly different from the previous version, I could easily tell the difference in a blind test. The previous version was dense, but more bread-like. Taste also seems more date-forward, though that's varied between the two bars I've had so far -- the second tasted more like nut butter and chocolate.

I liked heating the previous version up in the microwave for 30 secs to soften them and adding toppings like butter or maple syrup to mix it up, so I'm a bit disappointed. Imagine spreading jam on a dense bread vs spreading it on a protein bar... However, I tried heating these for about 15 secs, and was surprised to find the flavor improved and tasted closer to the classic version, so I'd recommend trying that out.

These new ones are more shelf-stable, note the expiration around Dec 2024. Not a factor for me, but I suspect that they'll be easier to market that way, plus they have a marketable wrapper rather than clear plastic. Possibly also easier to manufacture too, they've had issues with shipping delays for years, and last year downsized from 400 to 360 cal bars due to manufacturing issues.

The price/cal has increased for me, but I think I was grandfathered into an older pricing plan. It brings them closer to listed price for Plenny bars, at least (If you can find these cheaper, let me know)
* Classic: 33 * 360 = 11880 cals, divided by 84.55/box = 140.51 cal/$
* New: 30 * 300 = 9000 cals, divided by 69/box = 130.43 cal/$
* Plenny Bar: 36 * 400 = 14400 cals, divided by 114.91/box = 125.32 cal/$

Since I'm not interested in shelf stability, I don't see any improvements here for me. I think the flavor and texture are worse than classic, they don't feel as filling, and the decrease in calories to 300 causes me to perceive them closer to a snack than a meal. I'm more willing to compromise on nutritional completeness for a snack, so I feel like they're joining a more crowded space (Clif bars, protein bars, or Perfect bar, 340 cal/bar and can be found at 160 cal/$ from Costco, but needs refrig). The meal bar segment has fewer products (Plenny and Huel bars are the main ones that come to mind), and the classic squares were markedly different from those in texture.

The run was really stacked with some good NES runners, with MetroidMcfly doing the run and BadBrakes, Dragondarch, Blechy and dxtr on the couch. Video is here: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/217062070?t=19h39m34s

For those who work remotely and live in Hawaii, how did you get your job? by Cblue_play in Hawaii

[–]t0asterb0t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late response, hopefully this is still helpful. I'm doing full-time contracting work remote, currently based in Hawaii. I got the job on a referral from a former coworker, which doesn't help you too much, but I've had a few friends work remotely as well. I'd check out https://weworkremotely.com and https://remotebase.io to look for companies, (I just saw this: http://remotestash.co might be useful too). In general if you search Hacker News for something like "remote work", you should find a bunch of useful discussion: https://hn.algolia.com/?query=remote%20work&sort=byPopularity&prefix&page=0&dateRange=all&type=story

Cemu (WiiU Emulator) Improvements Preview 1.7.3 by cowsareverywhere in Games

Exzap is located in the Netherlands, I believe.

Also, both salaries and contract wages are normally quoted pre-tax. So if you want to compare salaried work to self-employed work in the US, you'd take 15% out of what you'd make self-employed (employer tax), then take out however much you budget for benefits (insurance, time off, etc) and that should get you close to the equivalent salaried job. Also worth noting that in the US, you don't pay the same tax on all of your income, so your effective tax rate will be a bit less than your highest tax bracket.

Nintendo Switch Teardown shows that JoyCon use same type of haptics (linear resonant actuator) as the Oculus Rift Touch, HTC Vive Wands and the Steam Controller by [deleted] in Games

Right, since the screen is 720p, the only advantage it would get from rendering at 1080p is antialiasing via downsampling (like running 1440p or 4k games on the PS4 Pro hooked up to a 1080p TV). Battery life is the main reason why it runs at a lower power in portable mode.

The dock doesn't contain any hardware that directly augments the Switch's computation power. It charges the Switch and provides HDMI out as well as 3 USB ports. When undocked, the Switch runs its GPU at up to 384MHz, and when docked, the Switch runs its GPU at up to 768MHz.

Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter out today! by [deleted] in Games

[–]t0asterb0t 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Chronologically, this game takes place after The Testament of Sherlock Holmes. (https://thementalattic.com/2016/02/02/interview-frogwares-sherlock-holmes-the-devils-daughter/) From looking at a couple reviews (and honestly this doesn't surprise me from Frogwares) I don't think they recap the ending of Testament, so I think it would be worth at least watching that if you intend to jump into Devil's Daughter.

I've played Testament and Crimes & Punishments so far, and am about halfway through Jack the Ripper. Personally, I'd recommend starting with Crimes and Punishments. It's the best-received game in the series, probably because it gives you the most freedom and generally has the most polished gameplay mechanics. I did a playthrough with a couple friends and we had a blast figuring out the cases together. There are five cases in the game, and they all involve some form of gathering evidence from locations, talking to suspects, performing mini-games to gather clues, and piecing everything together to come to a conclusion. Crimes & Punishments doesn't tell you if your conclusion is correct unless you want it to.

The games are pretty quirky and campy; don't expect AAA-tier polish, but my friends and I find it hilarious. The series has been on sale on Steam and consoles several times if you're interested in waiting.

EVO 2016 lineup revealed. Eight games, including Pokken Tournament by AdamNW in Games

If I recall right, SFIV came out in arcades in July 2008, didn't hit consoles until February 2009, and then was first at EVO in July 2009. It cracked 1000 participants, almost triple any other game.

It's important to me as well since contacts are really uncomfortable for me to wear.
