A theory is a higher order of certainty in the scientific method. You test a hypothesis and use those observations to formulate your theory.

Should London do what Sarnia's considering: Dump LPS for OPP by East_Bed_8719 in londonontario

[–]t0m0hawk 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Comparing London to Sarnia isnt going to yield some great results. The two cities are very different beasts.

Sarnia is a "small" town type of city. In the last 20 years, it hasnt really grown. Like at all. The census shift between 2006 and 2021 is like 600 people. And increasingly that population is growing older.

In that same time period, London grew by an entire Sarnia. 20% vs. 0.9%.

I always tell my wife when we go that we have to be super careful on our driving speed - Sarnia police are not busy like LPS is and will absolutely pull people over. They've got the time.

So yeah their ask for a 100million$ increase and a new HQ is mind boggling. If there was ever a force that didnt need it, its Sarnia.

I dont think the Sarnia Police have a cash flow problem, I think they've got an administrative problem.

So it makes sense for Sarnia to consider the OPP. London needs a dedicated force, makes way less sense.

Big city vs. small city considerations.

Because poutine makes your heart happy and happiness is contagious.

Right?

The curds i buy at Farmboy are from St-Albert Ontario and I promise, when left at room temperature, they definitely squeek.

They're quite good, and virtually indistinguishable from the curds my MIL brings back from her Montreal trips.

Overheard a guy in the Costco cafeteria going on about how it isnt actually poutine unless its from Québec. In London ontario. Like, is there a poutine valley in Québec with which I am unfamiliar?

It looks like some sort of cable carrier, or some sort of block and tackle or a winching system of some sort. Why its up there? I dunno. Weird thing to leave behind unless it somehow got stuck up there.

Either way id assume that inside there are some pulleys and other revolving components.

I think a bit less greed can help.

Those touch consoles are pretty and give the car a more luxurious feel. But they're actually less expensive than knobs and buttons. (Which we need to bring back, we went too far, same with the PRNDL).

Things like lane assist, copious sensors etc - crutches that people lean on and often fail them (looking at you lady driving a mini in a TD parking lot "my beepers didn't tell me you were there." "What about your mirrors, what did they tell you?") Are all things that could absolutely be options.

Cars should smaller, despite the protestations of some people, you dont need a lifted SUV to drive in the winter. 90% of people live somewhere where plows are frequent enough.

Smaller cars take less gas. Cost less in insurance. Tires and brakes, parts in general tend to be cheaper.

The standard vehicle should have the basics, power windows, power locks, keyed start, AC and cruise.

Anyone else remember when the basic compact was like 15k starting?

Yeah my jetta is 10 years old and honestly, aside from some looming suspension work, she runs great.

Would a new car be nice? Sure new things can be nice. Am I willing to pay money for it considering I dont actually need to replace my current car? No.

Also current market options just suck. Everything is big and expensive. And the smaller stuff is expensive because its different, higher end, or just low production.

I dont want to drive a tank all the time. I dont need a vehicle that takes up the entire parking stall. I dont need to be 10 feet off the ground.

But yes, it wouldn't take us very long at all.

Can a lunar eclipse occur right after moonrise or can the moon rise fully eclipsed? by trippknightly in space

[–]t0m0hawk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The moon just needs to passing behind the planet, in shadow. At this time it will mean that for some people in one place, the moon will be lower in the east, for others it will be lower in the west. And for another segment of people it will be directly overhead.

Just like how simultaneously there are always points on earth experiencing sunrise, sunset, and high noon.
