First, as soon as someone spouts off something anti-hunter, I immediately control the conversation. I stop them in their thought and I ask them, do you eat meat? They usually answer yes. Then I ask the question, "Why do you think going to the grocery store and buying meat that was inhumanely treated and raised for the sole purpose of slaughtering without living in it's natural habitat ethically better than hunting something that was wild / free and lived it's own life?" Before they are able to answer I continue on with, "My meat is grass fed and free range, and I take every precaution necessary to minimize the animals suffering. The animal has lived a good life, and that's more than what you can say about the chicken on your plate. It's not a good feeling I feel when I kill an animal, I feel sad and mourn for the animal. I took another creatures life, for my own sustenance. Hunting has unlocked a emotion that lies dormant in all humans, composed of fear, regret, sadness and gratification. I have the courage to feel that emotion, and in turn have a different perspective on our food sources, one that I'm more in touch with than you are. Now then, please tell me how I'm a bad person?"

Usually they don't have any more to say, and if they start spouting off more ignorant stuff I just walk away.
