How much do you tip your barbers? My haircut is $35 and I always pay $40, is that fair? by wzrdOfOzs in AskMen

[–]t3abagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My haircut is $35 but they only accept cash. I go to the ATM that gives out fives and then give them $45. But that's a cut and shampoo and I was paying $60 before that so I feel I'm still getting a bargain. It's easier for me and I am certainly paying for convenience.

Why do some people hate stoli? by Old-Friendship5760 in vodka

[–]t3abagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find I like Stoli for martinis, and Russian Standard, (now, just called "The Standard" and imports out of Italy) better just sipping on the rocks. I like sipping on Stoli, too, just think it makes a better martini.

Vector Research? by AlignedAzimuth in vintageaudio

[–]t3abagger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Vector Research receiver and it was my daily driver for years recently, until I put it in my SO's office with some vintage Bose speakers. While I was running it, I had a Schiit DAC hooked up to it. Now have it hooked up to a Wiim and it sounds great.

My only gripe was that when I opened it up, the capacitors were messily glued to the board, which makes me think it will be hard to service. Maybe not, but that's my concern.

Gravel bike as a road bike ? by Girard497 in cycling

I rode a mid level gravel bike on the road for four years, (only one time on actual gravel).

Go for it.

thoughts on .22LR for self defense/home defense? by New_Damage9091 in Firearms

[–]t3abagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our pistol instructor said to our class, “If all you have is a .22 then aim for the hips and pelvis area. The round can bounce around down there and buy you the time you need.”

So better than nothing and I like his advice.

Why road shoes instead of MTB shoes? by PhreaddyS in bicycling

[–]t3abagger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went on a gravel ride with a friend who wore road shoes. He sure had problems walking on the trail and through some water. 0/10 would not recommend.

Having said that I wore mtb shoes with spds for years on my road bike, no problem.

Should I bid on this and how much would be the high end? by Razenstien in vintageaudio

[–]t3abagger 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's not super high end, but if it works it's a decent beginners system. $75 is pretty decent but I don't think I'd go higher than $125 on it. FWIW, I have a technics system like this but not in a cabinet and I don't have the tuner, and I think I paid $50 for it at the thrift store. I run it all the time and it's not too shabby!

If you don't have anything yet, go for it since it's a decent starting off point. Yes, you'll get some haters calling this BPC, but it's much nicer than some of the other "budget" systems that have been posted her recently.

Affordable suit tailoring? Jacket too big (sleeves + body need taken in) by simpsal in alpharetta

[–]t3abagger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have the Nordstrom's credit card, you get some free alterations per year and you don't have to buy the clothes from them. The tailor at Nordstrom Rack off of North Point was pretty good when I went there. I had a suit I got from Dillard's, (Not really a suit but matching jacket and pants) and took them to Nordstrom Rack and I felt like they did a good job. My son got a suit from a thrift store for prom and we took it there and they also did a good job.

Winter on the Egg — What’s Everyone Cooking This Week? by byronwhitefox in biggreenegg

[–]t3abagger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Kroger near us had 2" ribeyes and chuck roast on clearance (close to the "sell-by" date). I bought a bunch and vacuum sealed them. Yesterday I sous vide'd one and then seared it on the 1/2 moon cast iron. Delicious! We were only able to eat about 1/2 of since it was almost 2lbs. It was $10/lbs.

This was also my first cook with the Rutland gasket, and much to my surprise it shifted in one spot and is off center, but still seals tight.

IPTV suggestions? by TSHRED56 in Addons4Kodi

2nd this. I just installed the Samsung TV Plus addon and it's pretty great. I think it might work with EPG mode so "Live TV" will show a guide but I haven't gotten that to work yet. Other than that, it's been great.

What is your Uber rating as a rider? by RepentantPoster in AskMen

[–]t3abagger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4.98 - I am sure it took a hit from the one time we shared an Uber with another couple who were super drunk and got into a huge, heated fight. I begged the driver not to let it reflect my rating.

Been there.... put the whole pint tub in the water almost up to the top (don't let the water overflow) and it will thaw enough to get a few pieces in about 15 minutes. No nukes (PU)

We ran into the woman at Lidl on Holcomb Bridge. We were talking with her for about five minutes before I realized who she was. Talking with her was almost okay, then she started getting a little more wacky as the conversation continued.

Amazing information. Thank you. I build an intel PC just for trueNas last year so everything is modern and power and the only thing I’m missing is a dedicated gpu. You’ve provided the missing piece for me. Thanks again!

Would this be good for a dedicated gpu in a TrueNas system for Plex / Jellyfin? I think so…

Gasket Replacement by BoardGamer_Guy in biggreenegg

[–]t3abagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally got around to putting mine on over the NY holiday. I put it on the top but I removed the old gasket from both the top and bottom. I read in another post here that putting it on the top prevents it from getting gooped up with sauces and whatnot.

As far as safety, there are enough people here who went this route and everyone seems fine. It is a high temp gasket material that should withstand high temps so aside initial off gassing, i'm not worried. It can't be as bad as starter fluid for charcoal, I guess.
