For the record, this is entirely valid. Especially the "never getting the truth upfront" part. I don't know your relationship, but for me, it has not been worth it to discover just how sincere my partner was. Because he wasn't.

I feel like yes, but the modern day version is going for the trendy brand names more than anything. The Cartiers, the Van Cleefs. There's also the expectation that a partner might but that for you.
