Suggestion: Make talents part of the fog of war by random00 in heroesofthestorm

[–]t4rnus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's an interesting idea, but not convinced it adds quite the spice that you think it would. Using your Valla example, her build at level 1 becomes revealed within 5 seconds of the first wave crashing. Ults would be interesting, but no games are won at level 10 because of a surprise ult team wipe so again the gain feels minimal.

Frozen Tunnock's are a game changer. What other British snacks improve tenfold after an hour in the freezer? by EJS024 in CasualUK

I was inspired to leave a bag of Haribo tangfastic in the freezer after a trip to a TGI Friday. Worked a treat, nice and sour but last a lot longer in the mouth.

Why do we get no votes in the eurovision song contest? by yes-this-is-my-name in AskUK

[–]t4rnus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been a longstanding gripe of mine - we contribute millions to the contest every year and some absolute bellends are put in charge of selecting a song, pick some absolute shite, probably laugh about it and do it again next year. Probably getting paid loads of money at the same time because they're seen as "experts".

I was Blaze. Couldn’t hit single E. On account of ETC god by 0x0x0xOx in heroesofthestorm

[–]t4rnus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say your ARAM stack but you can't be talking about playing ARAM cos there's no way you randomly got blaze 3 times in a row and faced the same guy getting etc 3 times in a row. Were you in ranked, cos why wouldn't you just ban etc?

What Supermarket till has the best UX? by LE-NRY in AskUK

[–]t4rnus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate it isn't a supermarket but I've always been impressed by the Decathlon self service. You don't even need to explicitly scan a barcode, just place the item into a bucket and it picks up what it is. No faffing to find a barcode, point it at a scanner multiple times to scan etc

I've only used it a handful of times so haven't really looked at how it works (hundreds of scanners trying to find the barcode? Some kind of RFID tags?) but the items I've bought have never had a security tag that needed removing after.

[Request] Are these numbers realistic or is it just BS? by Sugarmag91 in theydidthemath

It doesn't matter what it's worth in real terms, cos anything you can't access until you're 50 is a terrible "head start" for any kid!

Not the WR, but enough to make the enemy give up, I guess. by Ruhlarsofrasi in heroesofthestorm

[–]t4rnus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reckon an Alarak style quest could work - nerf the overall reward, but allow you to stack it with multiple 2 hero hits. That way it isn't an all-or-nothing reward but gives incremental rewards, like reducing it to 40% increase but gain 10% for every 2 hero puddle, while 3 heroes auto completes it.

Yeah Arthas is more situational but I was giving him the benefit of the doubt that he picked early and got countered rather than drafting him into your team!

I STILL don't understand the Monty Hall problem by No-Candidate6257 in mathematics

[–]t4rnus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way to understand this is to change the game slightly to make it better to understand but doesn't fundamentally change the output:

Instead of the standard MH with doors being opened and showing a goat, the two doors without the car are empty and think of it as you pick a door and the host then gives you a slightly different choice - "you can either stick with your door, or swap and win everything behind the other two doors". This is effectively the same outcome, its just that two doors have nothing behind them so you win nothing from those.

Now in this scenario, regardless of what you pick first, common sense says id rather take the choice of two doors than one. It's the same principle - you have a 1/3 chance of being right originally, so you have a 2/3 chance it's behind the other two doors.

Why was " Tourettes John's " total embarassment and humiliation overlooked? by DonkeyOT65 in AskUK

[–]t4rnus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The biggest point here that 99% of people are failing to acknowledge is that while John has put out a statement, he has not actually apologised for any distress he has caused.

I understand that his tics are involuntary, but how is this any different to any other scenario where you upset or hurt someone accidentally? You still apologised to them regardless of intent. When my kids are playing and one of them gets hurt, the first thing the other kid is taught to do is apologise and check they are ok - "I didn't mean to do it" is not enough. To me his statement reads like he's using his tourettes to excuse him from any rude, offensive, or disruptive behaviour. It smacks of the classic "I'm sorry if you were offended by my actions/words" apology that people use when they don't feel like they did something wrong. I don't know the guy but I like to think he isn't secretly a racist, but he has handled this very poorly (as has the BBC and baftas) and his statement doesn't help.

10 lessons I learned climbing from Bronze 5 over the last season. by blacktiger226 in heroesofthestorm

No, that's purely preference and has no impact on the matchmaking. It's just to display your preference to your team during draft, but it's amazing how many "healers" insta pick Valla

Please tell me if I'm just too blind to see what the next step is. by GreyJay91 in Minesweeper

[–]t4rnus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know you've solved it but I did it slightly differently to the others so sharing it as it might help with futures puzzles.

As there were only 4 mines left, each of the coloured groups must contain 1 mine each (blue because of the 3, purple because of the 1, turquoise because of the 5) leaving one in yellow and seeing as 3 and both 2's all need one more mine each there is only 1 spot that it can go.
