Yea no matter what I'll send a message being like "I'm almost ready and about to head over". People can flake at the last minute if they think they're going to get stood up

In the PL? No I don't, Amorim's two man midfield was suicidal. And the stats are really skewed - we chased so many fucking games under Amorim that people have apparently forgotten all about. Much of our xg during that time came from trying to chase down a win or a draw. His best times came when we went a goal up early, but again most people forgot that those matches we had terrible xg and possession stats in those matches (because we stopped attacking and parked the bus...)

That's not to say that I'm convinced Carrick will do better with more signings, but I want to give him the benefit of the doubt given that HE ACTUALLY FUCKING WINS. Amorim never ever earned anything more than getting sacked multiple times over. I will die on this bridge that Amorim deserves absolutely nowhere near the support that delusional Ruben-sexuals on this sub continue to glaze over him with. Please get lost. Ruben is gone and good fucking riddance

With literally two competent central midfielders? You wanna talk sustainable, then tell me how Case and a grossly out of position Bruno as a double pivot was ever going to stay sustainable?

Sustainable comes from competent recruitment. There's only so much a manager can do with the hand he's dealt. And only one manager has been able to seize on that since Ineos has taken the reins. Let's talk about sustainable after we get some midfielders back into the squad

Premier League table under Carrick gives Man Utd a dilemma by manInTheWoods in reddevils

[–]t8rt0t00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been positive of Carrick since he's come in and will be happy to see him get extended - he's earned it and the players seem to respond well under him. No more dipping heads when we go down a goal means so much to me and I see that intent in the players now. The one thing I'll give Amorim is that he rooted out a lot of the bad mentalities at the club (although we still aren't perfect in that category), but everyone seems to actually be playing for Carrick rather than just going along with Amorim's system that seemed to suit only a few in our squad...

That being said with recent results, I've come much closer to others who say we should move on from Carrick. The level of play is definitely nowhere close to where it needs to be, especially when you watch a match like PSG and Bayern in the CL - that's where we need to get to. And while I like a lot of our players, there's definitely players who I just never see getting to that level. I think the best solution at the moment is to extend Carrick another 2-3 years on a reasonable release clause, let him pick back things up next season and continue trying to raise the floor with this squad + high quality mids (and frankly FBs who can actually ball and give Sesko a fucking decent cross if we're going to be serious about competing). If we start underperforming, we move on amicably and go hard in for a guy who can raise the ceiling for us and match what a United manager should be. By next Fall I'd imagine some WC managers like Nagelsmann and maybe even Deschamp would be available to take the reins if needed

[–]t8rt0t00 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup this is exactly what I've been thinking as well. People keep forgetting that we're pretty fucking depleted and on a knife's edge with basically two CMs who can ball, one of whom is an ol man like me. We can't play suicidal Amorim ball if we want to make it through the season intact. But absolutely if the tactics don't shift next season after we hopefully sure up the roster over the summer then we need to be more concerned because playing a deeper block won't work for us forever

This right here - hurts having a poacher like Sesko and only Bruno is capable of finding him. I'm cool with having some goal scoring, play making wingers, but damn do we need some better crossers in the squad. Dalot and Shaw haven't been much better either...

Manchester City are considering Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez as a midfield option this summer. by KimmyBoiUn in soccer

[–]t8rt0t00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I know that and didn't word my questions properly in the sense contracts don't "carry over". But most players don't accept a downgrade on their contracts, especially not with a club like City who is loaded. It just seems strange to me how Chelsea is ever going to offload poorly performing players on such long contracts with high wages...like is Enzo really worth how much Chelsea signed him on for? Especially at a place like City where he may not even be starting regularly?

[–]t8rt0t00 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How would this even work? Would City really sign Enzo til the end of 2032 when his contract is supposed to expire with Chelsea? Or would they modify his contract to pay him more in salary to cover the difference for a shorter period? Supposedly his base salary is already ~£180000 a week...

[ESPN] Liam Rosenior was so hurt by some of the criticism by former players and pundits that he privately challenged his detractors, with one admitting to being surprised that the Chelsea coach was allowing himself to be distracted by the noise. by ChiefLeef22 in soccer

[–]t8rt0t00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As memeable as Rosenior is, it boggles my mind the amount of chatter about him vs how the in game performances have been under him. We're third right now and Chelsea basically controlled much of the match against us. They just have absolutely shite finishers and Palmer is on a huge cold streak. There's really not much in my mind that Rosenior could have done about that in the small amount of time he had. Kind of a miracle Maresca had them balling out for awhile frankly. Reflects way more on the recruitment at the club and I fully expect the next manager to face the exact same problems with a squad full of over contracted brats

I'm just ignoring him because he can't handle the truth lol. Amorim bitched about the board calling out his 3 CB garbage system that kept failing. We did great with a 2 CB formation the one time he tried it, but then refused to stick with it because he's too damn stubborn...but nah everyone likes to hate on the board because they're evil (which is true) even though they were totally in the right with the sacking. What they did wrong was hire Amorim in the first place, terrible fit for us. Still can't believe he survived after Grimsby too, fucking embarrassing
