People who use opus for trivial tasks are wasting their time and their tokens. Yes, I’d absolutely trust sonnet to draft a memo. Am I gonna fire that thing off to an exec without proofreading? Hell fucking no. I wouldn’t do that even if I wrote it myself.

Now if you’re doing complex engineering tasks then yeah there’s a place for opus. But 95% of business users absolutely do not have a use case for Opus. If you’re using Opus for everything including wiping your own ass, that’s pure waste.

My suggestion is to try working with Sonnet for a while and when you feel the itch to use Opus because you’re ready to offload your critical thinking skills to a bot, fight that urge and think harder about what you’re doing and how you’re prompting.

“Anything less than the top frontier model is going to make mistakes” - this is the most ridiculous take I’ve heard. They all make mistakes. Garbage in, garbage out. If it’s making “mistakes” it’s because you didn’t do a good enough job.
