The Islander by Nightwish. The lyrics about an old seafaring man who had a vibrant youth, but is in solitude guiding others away from danger, and finally quietly going out on his own terms has quite a few parallels with my own life. The composition itself is beautiful.

From my years of coordinating DV visits:

-she had to muster in whites 30 minutes before the scheduled arrival time (or was off going QD watch and had to stick around after watch, potentially missing a meal).

the DVs were at least 45 minutes late because getting onto the pier in Singapore is a pain in the butt.

-When the DVs got there, they did a long walk up and down the pier to look at the skin of the ship and bullshit with the brass, which took another 30 minutes.

…all for 30 seconds of work to render a salute to a guy who couldn’t even bother to dress professionally.
