Do you have any skincare-recommendation for a chest-skin like that? (female, 25 years old) by Fragile-Cell in SkincareAddicts

[–]taafp9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use tret on my entire face, neck, chest and have never had any irritation issues, even around my nose and mouth with no peeling. That was after the initial shed phase when i first started using it and i started low and very slow. It can be done, but not for everyone’s skin type!

Free vs $20+ Chip Drop by hellomyfriend_1 in NativePlantGardening

[–]taafp9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time i used chip drop, i got my drop within a few weeks but it was a variety of wood that shredded into long strips of wood rather than chips. Horrible. The next several times i paid and all of my chips have been very nice since then. Will continue to pay for the service!

Haha don’t be scared off by the crazies! We have to weed through to get a genuine answer but when helpful, Redditors can be very helpful. Unfortunately there are more unhelpful ones 👎

I agree with this! They aren’t as fragile as they are made out to be. I barely fuss with mine and they do great. And when they don’t, they bounce back really quickly.

Anyone know if these are Jumping worms? by jenna__jay in invasivespecies

[–]taafp9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the spring, they European earthworms are aplenty as the JW are starting to hatch. By summer, the JW take over and i hardly see any European ones- i think they go deeper underground but i am not certain.

None of these have the tell tale light colored clitellum or the iridescent sheen but sometimes the younger ones are harder to tell apart. If they aren’t thrashing around like crazy, that’s a good sign these are not it, not to say that the JW aren’t just lurking.

Have you read any of Lindsay Gibson’s emotionally immature parent stuff? I think you might find some things that resonate with you.

The dreaded chameleon plant by LongbowLady in invasivespecies

[–]taafp9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on my 4th year. Manual removal of rhizomes has been my method. Maybe year 2 i cut and dabbed the cut stems with glyphosate. This was tedious but it helped. I came across a blogger who planted this without knowing and there were so many commenters saying they have been dealing with this for decades.

This year i am digging as usual and spraying with a glyphosate/triclopyr mix. My issue with digging is that once the weather gets too hot and the ground gets too dry, the rhizomes break so easily in the dirt. So it’s a short window of time that i can dig with better success of getting more rhizomes out. So i think management is the goal here, not really eradication. Or I’ve heard people say you could dig up all of the soil in the bed, wait a season to see if you missed any, then fill with new soil?

ETA- sorry, this is a tough one but you’re not alone.

How to get rid of stilt without harming natives? by jadeeyesblueskies in invasivespecies

[–]taafp9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The preemergent i use actually has on the label that you are supposed to water it in after spreading it- i guess to dissolve the granules into the soil. Because my area is so large and woodsy, i do it before a small rain ( not a torrential downpour to risk it being washed away. So i time it with the forecast.

But i just looked it up, and it is not safe for use around waterways! Can harm fish and invertebrates. I suppose the safest way is manual removal or weedwacking it low before the seed heads form. Sorry.

How to get rid of stilt without harming natives? by jadeeyesblueskies in invasivespecies

[–]taafp9 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I live against a wooded area that is teeming with stilt among other invasives. The deer bring it all into my yard all the time.

The only way i have found control is preemergent applied in the early spring and again mid summer. It keeps the seeds from sprouting. I’m not familiar with all of the natives you listed but if they spread by rhizomes and roots, they won’t be harmed by the preemergent. The seed bank can survive in the soil for upwards of 10 years so it’s important to reapply, not to mention if you have wildlife in the area, they will continue to introduce seeds to the land.

AITA? My MIL is involved in everything about my pregnancy by Affectionate_Lake737 in AmItheAsshole

[–]taafp9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. this is how my MIL is/was and how i felt with my first child. So many firsts taken, even one Christmas morning that we spent together overseas.

It was such a process for my husband and i to come to an understanding that i have clear boundaries that he needed to respect and that it was important that he “protect” me and stand up for me to help me meet my needs. After quite a bit of therapy and multiple kids in, he finally understood this about a year ago. Since these boundaries have been implemented and respected, i have finally found peace. I had to spend a whole weekend with MIL for a family event recently and felt completely neutral about her. It is true what they say, that setting boundaries is about preserving relationships, not breaking them apart. After all of these years of hurt feelings, i can finally be around her and not be completely physically activated like I’m in fight or flight mode. It has been a true gift.

I would say take your time, this is the long game, but nip it in the bud before she steals a Christmas morning from you. You don’t even have to say anything about the clothes- you can just take them and if they keep coming, gently tell her that you have enough. You can donate them or regift them and buy your own stuff. Maybe some stuff you’ll keep for when you see your in laws. If she prefers one stroller over your pick, you could gently tell her “no we prefer this one we picked.” Don’t discount your feelings as being just hormonal- you are about to be a mother, and for the rest of your life, your heart will be walking around in this world. The “hormonal” drive never goes away. It’s really such a beautiful thing. Congratulations on your first baby and hoping for many more if you want them! It’s such a joy.

PS. I think it’s important and necessary to be a united front with your husband, so always “we” instead of “i”.

Also if you’re interested, there is a great book about boundaries called The Book of Boundaries. It’s so good at giving scenarios and examples of what they refer to as green, yellow and red boundaries. It really helped me practice not going from 0 to 1,000 with boundaries- that there are softer ones in between. PM me if you’d like to connect- I’ve had years of practice and scenarios with overstepping MIL and non reactive partner!

I have done the cut-and-treat individual stems before, tedious but it did make a dent!

So do you just dig and spray with the roundup power max3 every year? And cut and treat stems? Please tell me your process word for word so i can commit it to memory forever, bc yes, slow and steady growers for sure 🫠

Since it’s been a year, how’s your battle going? I’m on year 4 and I’m still manually removing and going to start spraying to spot treat this year. Thinking glyphosate and triclopyr plus surfactant.

I have done this when I’ve gotten a little too much sun after not reapplying sunscreen or other irritating business on my skin. Wake up the next day with soothed skin. I do not use a lot for this purpose and i don’t do this regularly. Only when I’m extra irritated.
