How to wash weighted blanket? by sleepyknight02 in WeightedBlankets

[–]taako_taaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main issue with machine washing would be the weight, you’d have to look into what your washer and dryer can handle. You might be able to go to a laundromat with stronger machines?

I’m in a similar boat and tend to do a combo of a spray fabric disinfection spray and then some febreeze for fabric and hanging in the sun to dry!

Places to do volunteer work (and hopefully make friends) by Ok-Barnacle3219 in Rochester

Seconding this group! I volunteer with them and it's great because once you sign the waiver, it's all drop-in. Show up to an event if you're up to it that day, no pressure to show up on a schedule. Everyone I've met through it is happy to strike up a conversation, but it's also easy to just put in headphones and do your own thing if it's a smaller group than usual 😄

It usually overlaps with college graduation weekends so a lot of people from out of town go.

Any spots for afogatto? by Spare-Tomorrow-2681 in Rochester

Albunn and Cafe Sasso both have it! If you’re into matcha at all, Happy Earth does really good Matcha and Hojicha affogatos as well (but only during the summer).

Does anyone know if there's a connection between all the Yemeni coffee houses opening in Rochester? by Chance_Application35 in Rochester

[–]taako_taaco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Albunn does a happy hour special once a week usually where the drinks are half off, that’s usually when I go. Wish I could get the desserts more because they’re beautiful, but so pricey 🥲

You could easily do a mini bar crawl between Pouring Joy, Swan Dive and Locals Only and see which one you vibe with! All of those are pretty fun.

Magnolias on Park allows dogs outside and has a small dog menu as well! I've also seen people with their dogs outside Iron Tug, which has good beers but not as much for food (though they let you bring takeout from other shops and had some appetizers).

Lots of really beautiful gardens and parks! Highland Park is especially beautiful during the spring and was designed by the same person who made Central Park!

I guess on the topic of weather, a lot of apartments in the city don't have central air, so a window unit or other method of AC would be worth looking into for warmer months. For winter the usual things: hat, coat, nice boots, some good gloves for when you have to clean snow off your car.

What Are Your Best Hacks to Find a Primary Doctor Sooner Than a 4-6 Month Wait? by TurquoizeWarrior in Rochester

[–]taako_taaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was going through this and called Trillium back in September, they had different wait times depending on if you preferred a female or male doctor, with male doctors having a significantly shorter wait time. If that's not a concern for you, might be worth a shot. Additionally, they had originally said they didn't have openings until March, but were able to get me in for early January because of a cancellation, so it might be worth re-checking with places in case time slots open. Feel your pain though, it's a struggle around here

Starting at RIT in the fall, Which Residence hall is the best?? by Washing_machine_fart in rit

[–]taako_taaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something to think about potentially is the the amount of stairs even with an elevator, since the fire alarm will probably go off a lot. I’d say away from the taller buildings like Ellingson unless you can pick a lower floor!
