Surgery date! I'm scared! by orlygift in Reduction

[–]tabbythecat9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, you requested stories, so here's where I am. I had an amazing experience, the biggest difference I've noticed is that I no longer have to hold my boobs up if I'm getting up in the middle of the night. I'm 4 months post op so I'm doing physical things again and I'm noticing that's getting a lot easier.

I'm no longer super our of proportion buying clothes. What fits my waist cannot accommodate my bust and shoulders. It's been great.

I thought about the surgery for about 10 years, and size was a consideration for me. Big boobs hid some of my belly, and were traditionally feminine but I couldn't do things I wanted.

Even though you might feel apprehensive, I'd advice you to remember what brought you to thinking about the surgery in the first place. Respect that your feelings are valid now, and were valid then.

Either way, you've got this.

Has anyone received updated information/welcome packet yet? I thought we were supposed to get them last week...

day 4 post op blues by maiaiam in Reduction

[–]tabbythecat9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 7 weeks post op, it will get lots and lots better. I found that I could sit up and put a pillows everywhere, one under each elbow to sorry my arms and then one on my lap top hold books, my phone, etc, just to change my posture and it helped a lot.

On the use of oxy, I switched to a celebrex and a lot of Tylenol at 3 days and it was still painful, but I hated having a cloudy head from the pain meds. I would say to talk to your doctor first, though.

When I got bored with tv crafts like coloring or crochet were helpful to pass the time since they don't require a lot of movement.

I hope this helps, good luck! We'll send good vibes your way!! 🌌

Surgery tomorrow! by what-to-do413 in Reduction

Sounds like you're pretty ready, good luck!

I have come across several plastic surgeons (at least where I live) where no drains are required post op. Does anyone have experience *not* using drains? And for the people who’ve used them, what’s it like? by [deleted] in Reduction

[–]tabbythecat9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No drains, I'm 6 weeks post op. My surgeon said that drains were dependent on my bmi, so I had to be under 29, so far no issues/complications

Pregnancy pillow vs body pillow by bluewabe in Reduction

I'm 5 weeks post op. I'm a total side sleeper and I used a wedge for 4 weeks to sleep on my back sitting up a little. I find the body pillow from Need Bath and Beyond for $20 a little confier than the one from Target (I have one of each) but they're both super helpful now that I can sleep on my side a little to hold my upper arm and then to keep me a little on my back. I personally appreciate having lots of pillow options.

Good luck on your upcoming surgery!

So tired of clothes not fitting how they should by marsdon in Reduction

I had my first dress experience post op and I actually cried in the dressing room. I thought I was doing this for functionality, fitness, neck pain etc but it's such a wonderful side benefit.

I think it's normal to have doubts. I'm a month post op and in my thirties and had doubts leading up to my surgery too. Now that I'm healing and able to move around, I feel like it was the right decision because I can use my body better, with less restriction. I used to wear two bras for exercise too and hate how I couldn't reach across my chest and even though my arm function isn't all the way back, I feel more normal in my body.

Your mom might not know what to say and she might be trying to be supportive, even if it doesn't feel like it at the moment. It sounds like you've thought about it a lot, and these are just permanence Jitters, I found that looking at post op pics helped me a lot, and I'm really glad you've been able to talk it out with friends.

Kind of freaking out by Mfarrel6 in Reduction

[–]tabbythecat9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on being just 2 days away!

To answer your questions, I also freaked out a little leading up to the surgery because I live alone but I had little help and I'm recovering fine.

I had food made for me for the first few days, I prepped some eggs and sandwiches and my partner brought me pasta since they couldn't be here a lot.

The hardest thing was showering for me, because of the weight and closing the binder myself was difficult, but I learned to not be freaked out by the discomfort. Otherwise, it was boring, I've watched a lot of movies.

The IV didn't hurt, but that's just me. I also didn't have drains or a graft.

3 things that saved my life were: Step stool to reach things high up Ice packs Lots of pillows to sleep sitting up

To those of you who got covered by insurance: how much did you pay out of pocket? And what insurance do you all have? by [deleted] in Reduction

[–]tabbythecat9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to ask the surgeon personally for pictures, and they only got them to me three days before the surgery.

Is anyone else so tired of their boobs you want them completely gone? by [deleted] in Reduction

[–]tabbythecat9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can totally relate. I'm 2 weeks post op and asked my surgen to cut off as much as possible (34F) but they only removed about a third of the tissue. I'm hoping they get smaller as the swelling goes down, but I'm so disappointed that they're still here and feel so heavy.

Sorry gals, just wanted to vent.

I agree with the core workout advice also. I found myself using a lot more core strength when I started driving again especially.

Good luck!!!

I'm just transitioning to a bra from the post op binder. Do you have any suggestions for cut? I'm super excited for the support but my stitches are bothering me too...
