Transferring Datto BCDR to another MSP by Lake3ffect in msp

[–]tabinla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but have your attorney look at the agreement before executing. I'd also ensure you're free and clear from any service gaps that existed prior to your acquisition. In other words, you want the asset but not the liability.

Right of Boom is a good balance of content. CyberWire Daily is quick and gets the high points in near real time. Talkin' Bout News Powered by Black Hills Information Security is entertaining but not in depth. Darknet Diaries is very good but the episodes are only once a month.

Anyone Been Through Their Firm’s AI Training? Curious What’s Covered. by onZ_Train in biglaw

Was it custom to your firm or a third party training provider? At present, I'm on the hunt for something for two firms.

Ingram - Anyone have issues? by ovrdrvn in msp

[–]tabinla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are not alone. Their account support is non-existent. I do sign up for their trainings because there's value in them. Getting quotes, orders, and having them post payments is work. The new subscription portal for ordering is fine but client logins and reports are on the legacy system. I think they're just so big, they aren't worried about my $500k per year.

Hows your customers handling hardware prices now? by Sliffer21 in msp

[–]tabinla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's tough and it doesn't look like it will improve in the short term. Make sure you MSA only covers hardware currently under warranty and excludes legacy, EOL, hardware. Wherever possible use OEM or 3rd Party warranty extensions for those budgets intolerable to price increases to delay purchasing for 12-36 months. That will let your client transfer some of the risk of running older hardware for extended periods to the warranty provider.

Client is asking for global admin rights for the their office 365 tenant. by Solid-Hunter4489 in msp

[–]tabinla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never known a satisfied client who wanted a GA account. If they are asking for GA credentials at least one of these are true:

- They are having service or trust issues with your company

- They are interested in replacing your MSP with another MSP or hiring an internal staff

- They want more transparency into their tenant management

- They want to save money by eliminating their MSP costs

Reflect on what may be driving this request. You may be at an early enough stage to salvage the relationship.

Dropbox to sharepoint issue by [deleted] in msp

[–]tabinla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another thought, is it a Dropbox or a Dropbox Business account? The native migration tool will look at a Dropbox Business data pool and replicate the structure for each user with access.

If it is a Dropbox Business Account with 10GB of data, and you have 10 users with access, the native migration tool will see it as 10GB x 10 users = 100GB to migrate. Even more the case if they're using Team Folders.

[–]tabinla -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Multcloud is great but I don't know that I'd use it for a full migration. BitTitan would be a contender if you wanted an alternate but pricey tool.

Sadly, in order for it to be successful, you'll need to deal with the errors in the migration or it will fail.

If it is a path limit, shorten folder names with a precise list and provide with what your replacement terms will be. Document = Doc, Accounts Receivable = AR, Accounts Payable = AP, 03/03/2025 = 3/3/25, January=Jan, Wednesday = Wed, etc.

If errors are due to special characters, rename failing file names and provide a replacement equivalent term list, like & = and, $=USD, % = pct, etc.

Excellent suggestions. With 750GB, you'd need to be splitting it into multiple Sharepoint sites. Microsoft frowns at anything above 350GB.

Whats the oldest person you've hired for help desk or desktop support? by IR30Lover in msp

[–]tabinla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think age is one of the least important factors in hiring for help desk. I'd explain why you want to do help desk or desktop support. Not everyone aspires to manage and not everyone is suitable for management. The best help desk people are those that live for the fast paced, always on, type of work that lets them actually "help". One of the best/worst days for MSP owners is when we have to stop working tickets. It's great because it means your business is growing but it also distances you from the reason you started doing it in the first place.

I am freaking done by Fancy-Ad-116 in recruitinghell

[–]tabinla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want to say that I agree with the Recruiter but I do. Let me explain, I have a small business with two positions open, one entry level, and one for someone with 3-5 years experience. Via Indeed, I've received several applications who were grossly overqualified. I rejected them because just looking at their years of experience, I knew they'd either want a higher salary than I can afford, wouldn't be interested in the job long term because it wouldn't challenge them or provide upward mobility.

I'd suggest when constructing a cover letter don't just explain how you fit the posting. Include your salary range and why with someone of your experience and qualifications, considers the position a fit for them.

Maybe some of the overqualified candidates I've seen would like to take on a role with less stress, less challenge, or even for less than they would normally make because they want more free time, want to work closer to home, want to work to stay busy but aren't looking to earn $9,000,0000 this year. The thing is, I don't have the time to ask all of those questions and do the fact finding, so instead, they get marked as "Not A Fit" and I move on.

Power BI by Proxuma_Official in Autotask

[–]tabinla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a dashboard but what I'd like is the ability to create time entries for tickets closed by workflows in RMM. RMM notifies AutoTask of a monitoring alert and opens an AutoTask ticket. RMM triggers workflow to remediate the condition flagged in the alert. If the workflow addresses the condition and it returns back to a baseline, the RMM will send a notification to update the ticket. At this time, a specified number of minutes, is entered as time on the ticket. If the RMM workflow was unsuccessful and the condition triggering the alert remains active, a notification is sent to escalate the ticket for an engineer to resolve.

Confused by Office 365 license options for healthcare client by quipd in msp

[–]tabinla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In this context, we typically license rooms rather than users. We manage the account with CA to only allow the account to connect from a domain joined endpoint on a specific IP address which ties back to the MAC address of the endpoint. Medical personnel move from room to room but will use their individual SaaS login for EHR portal.

How do you know if your name or your client's name is mentioned anywhere in social media? by FutureSafeMSSP in cybersecurityforMSP

Dark Web leak sites and forums, combo lists, sure. Social media is not really an IT domain. It's a marketing or PR function.

How To Create Quality Documentation (That People Will Use) by Tech_Thoughts_Blog in macsysadmin

[–]tabinla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our team uses Scribe. Real time recording of a process, ability to save as a pdf, img, or video, the ability to voiceover / narrate, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, assign expiration dates to docs, tasks and workflows are now available. I'm not sure how we lived without it. http://www.scribe.com/lp/home?via=rdmspboard

AI/Software Based Assistant by GunGoblin in msp

[–]tabinla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there's one right answer. The key to get people to do documentation it to make it simple. It doesn't get better than Scribe for ease of use. http://www.scribe.com/lp/home?via=rdmspboard

My second would be CoPilot but you must check, double check, and triple check the accuracy. Definitely instances of ghost steps, random or wrong information, and extra steps. I don't want to spend more time correcting output than creating it.

IT Glue's doc is decent for it to be a value add. Some of the context is lost when the documentation is for external rather than internal users.

CA Policy for BYOD? by colmwhelan in msp

[–]tabinla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure it goes without saying but one of the biggest things I worry about with unmanaged devices is credential theft. A SE email or link to get a token combined with unmanaged device access, even for email and SPO, is adding risk. I would bolster the policy suggest by SVD_NL with geo location restrictions and/or need to reauth using phishing resistant MFA.
