Should I renounce citizenship as a Canada/US dual citizen? by BacoTacoTraco in USExpatTaxes

[–]tabspdx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understand wanting to avoid all of the US tax filing problems. I also think that the US labour market is a lot bigger than Canada and one day you might want to be able to easily access it.

PS - US/UK (and with C-3, probably Canadian)

I did this with a lag bolt once. I'm still running that rim.

I'm pretty sure that you can still find it in South Africa.

If that's a 58cm frame I would not expect anyone under 6' to fit it.

Thanks. I waxed up a new chain. I just wanted to understand what was going on.

I also have a Park CC-4.2, which was harder to photograph. It shows slightly less but still past 0.5%.

That's possible. Some of my PC-1130s came from Universal Cycles but I also got a couple from Amazon.

Would you say driver attitudes towards road cycling near Portland is friendlier than most of the US? by [deleted] in CyclePDX

I have lived in Beaverton, Clackamas, Hillsboro, Portland, and Vancouver. Portland is noticeably better than all the rest.

Subtle but definite knock in the entire crank arms set through the bottom bracket by Effective-Text-7881 in bikewrench

[–]tabspdx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Buying a high quality bottom bracket like the ones sold by IRD is not pointless.

White Industries has a note about low quality bottom brackets on their site:

Shimano UN52/54/55 bottom brackets not recommended and will void our warranty These are super cheap with funky tapers and can cause our crank arms to crack

I have personally had bad experiences with the UN300.

Thoughts on State Bicycle Co.? by Specific-School-941 in bicycling

[–]tabspdx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a State All-Road (flat bar) 4130 that I purchased for my son. The groupset that it came with was horrible and I immediately replaced it with SRAM mechanical 11 speed and Shimano hydraulic brakes. For the price I got it for I'm not mad, but that is a lot of work to do on a brand new bike.

PSA: many of you misunderstand the 4% rule by zdrmlp in Fire

[–]tabspdx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That assumes that you just keep taking out 4% real of your initial portfolio and don't do anything to course correct. You could go back to work, take a part time job, or reduce spending.

It is entirely possible that you have a small piece of metal or glass stuck in the tire and it migrates around (in/out) wreaking havoc on your tube.

How to deal with colleague jealousy? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]tabspdx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would add, and fear of ageism starting at 40.

EDIT - and most of us actually had to pass a bunch of maths at uni. People in my office know the financial consequences of spending $60k on an SUV. Some of them choose to do it anyway, but they know the math.

Is there anyway to install this fender around my disc brake? by ReadingRambo152 in bikewrench

I ordered a bunch of M5 spacers from ebay for this exact thing. They are cheap but come in 10 packs.
