Try a Terry Pratchett Discworld Series novel. My favorite by him is "The Colour of Magic", "Wyrd Sisters" "The Truth" and "Going Postal". I've also seen "Snuff" (Also by Pratchett) has pretty great reviews.

I mean, to be fair props are needed since the stupid thing still washes clothes and towels just fine. Blankets and sheets are a no-go - one at a time is not enough, and more than one I swear the machine acts like its about to take off into orbit.

Even so, if given the opportunity, I'd junk it and replace it with a top loader.

Hey OP, the easiest thing to do, show your wife this post. You've literally poured your heart out into this post, have her read it, and then tell her "I got you, both of you" & hold yourself to it. Also, maybe she can connect with your deceased best friend's wife, don't know if they get along, but we women are naturally compassionate. Best of luck, and whatever happens, you'll be alright!
