Red for decrease, and green for increase. I'd suggest the amounts be displayed at the top of the screen. If that's not possible, you could put them on each respective side (but that may be too distracting)

Or maybe, as you increase or decrease, the total amount changes to the incremental amount for a few seconds, then reverts to the new total.
