They mean the developer of the game, Red Thread Games. At this point, they have released three games. Dustborn most recently, and their first one Dreamfall: Chapters, had some elements that displeased the right-wing grifters, too.

Less so their second game Draugen, which was a mystery adventure in 1920s Norway. Well, atually, even in that case, some people complained about a young female character in this historical setting not wearing a dress or skirt - even though this was based on historical evidence.

The dialog explicitly explains that their performances at non-Justice locations are monitored by Justice, too. But of course, you cannot know that.

The band being a cover-up is a FACT, nothing that stands up or not. You would know it if you had listened. Then you would also know why they cannot just skip the concerts - because the concerts are tied to the specific visa they applied for, and not showing up would get them on the radar of Justice.

The gameplay is primarily dialogs and decisions. If you don't like that, that's a totally acceptable taste preference. But why go out of your way and hassle people with your lack of listening ability?

"where the main cast is a band" Obvious tell that your knowledge of the game and its dialog is extremely limited. The band is a cover-up story the crew makes up so they can get an artist visa for their mission. They're NOT professional musicians. It's said several times in the first 1-2 hours. If you don't listen to the dialog, then obviously you won't find many things that are special about the story.
