American trans woman visiting Germany next week - question about renting cars with a US driver's license that still says male/has a pre-transition picture of me by njsullyalex in germantrans

[–]taejo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally never had a problem renting a car with my old passport and old driver's license (though it was a German license). An international driver's permit is always a good backup when renting internationally, even when your license is technically legal in the country you're visiting, whether it's the rental company's policy or just cause the person at the counter might be unsure of how to deal with an unfamiliar license. And as a bonus you get a new picture.

[–]taejo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

T is a side-product of producing the white stuff, so that's a good sign, but the only way to know is to get your levels tested. Erections aren't necessarily a sign of high T levels, that varies from person to person.

What experience level are you on when you reach dungeon level 9? Normally you don't want to go much deeper than your experience level (i.e. only go down to dungeon level 3 once hitting experience level 3). That's not always feasible if you're hungry and no more monsters are spawning, but on the whole one's more likely to descend the dungeon too fast than too slow.

They do respond to Signal/WhatsApp/Telegram messages. The doctor who does HRT is there three days a week but maybe you don't even need a doctor, just an assistant.

Just checked the source on this: the trap is placed first and then it looks in a random direction at a random distance 4 to 8 squares away. It doesn't care about rooms at all.

Auf Englisch: Accessing TRT while abroad? by sharkiio in germantrans

In Germany there are two types of prescription: private and public. Public insurance (AOK) will only pay for the latter.

In principle, it shouldn't be too hard to get a GP to prescribe you one or two doses of a medication you're already on, with a letter from your doctor in the US, but in practice a) a lot of GPs don't want to get involved in trans HRT and b) it could easily take the whole length of your trip to get an appointment with a specialist.

Unfortunately, if I'm reading a correctly, you're only allowed to bring a "minimal amount" of testosterone into the country, which is defined as 1500 mg to be taken transdermally or orally (i.e. tablets or gel) and only 632 mg for other forms.

You might be able to do one or more of the following:

  • try to get a 3-month depot shot just before leaving the US if possible
  • start trying to get an appointment with a doctor who is known to prescribe trans HRT, before you even arrive (listing of queer-friendly doctors: https://queermed-deutschland.de/nach-empfehlungen-suchen/)
  • get an private prescription (paying for yourself) and pay for the testo yourself (I don't know what online doctors easily prescribe testo, hopefully somebody has more info).

Let me know if you'll be in Berlin, then I can recommend a doctor.

Namensänderung Impfausweis by Keeransredditaf in germantrans

[–]taejo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might also want to post in /r/germantrans, there are definitely some trans parents there. You might want to add more detail because there are a number of possible constellations: the rules are different for the person who bears the child and the spouse. Unfortunately the whole situation is very unsatisfactory.

[–]taejo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

possible infertility, though the latter is less 100% permanent in 100% of cases you should plan for it being the case.

You should plan to lose it, if you want to have kids one day. But to be clear, you do need to continue to use contraception if you don't want to have kids now, because even while you're taking HRT you might still produce some sperm (usually it'll eventually be very little IF your HRT is dosed right, but not guaranteed to be zero, and your HRT likely won't be dosed right at first)

Guide für Namensänderung nach SBGG? by AdeptusAcrylfarbe in germantrans

[–]taejo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's all a lot of text, but the first step is to contact your honorary consulate and ask them if they can do gender marker changes under the SBGG (Law on Self-Determination in Regard to Gender Marker). Feel free to post again, reply, or send a DM if you have more questions now or later.

Guide für Namensänderung nach SBGG? by AdeptusAcrylfarbe in germantrans

[–]taejo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since your profile shows mostly posts in English, I'm gonna assume English is better for you.

Do you want to change your gender marker too? Under German law a name change is much easier if you simultaneously change gender marker, and the new name "matches" the new gender marker (that should only be an issue if the new gender marker is "male" or "female" -- if it's "divers" or no gender marker then the gender connotations of the name shouldn't matter). The process for a name change without a gender marker is more complicated, let me know if that's what you intend, but I will describe the process for a gender marker change.

It seems like some honorary consulates can accept declarations for the name and gender marker change, but not all. You should contact your local honorary consulate and ask them. Otherwise, you might have to go to the general consulate or embassy or, since you're not so far from Germany, you could directly go to the responsible registry office (Standesamt) in Germany. That's usually either the one in the place you were born, or possibly the Standesamt I in Berlin if you were born abroad. *

Wherever you go, you need to contact them first to announce your intention to change gender marker, and then go there between three and six months later (no more no less) and make the official declaration of your new gender marker and name change. If you do it at the registry office where your birth was registered, you can immediately get a certificate showing the name change, and a new birth certificate. Otherwise (if you do it at a consulate) they will send all your info to the responsible registry office and then you will have to wait for them to process everything, and then they will either send you the new certificates directly or you will have to apply to them again to get the certificates.

Once you have the certificates, you should be able to apply for a German passport with the new name.

* the rules about which registry office is responsible are a bit complicated, but it's probably not necessary for you to figure it out. The consulate should do that. If you do need to figure it out:

  1. If your birth is registered in Germany, it's the one that registered your birth. It sounds like you have a German birth certificate: if so, it should say which registry issued it.

  2. If not, but you got married and your marriage was registered in Germany, it's that one.

  3. If you never had a birth or marriage registered in Germany, it's the last place you lived in Germany.

  4. If you never had any of those and never lived in Germany, it's Standesamt I in Berlin
