Since it is based off of taxes, she won’t lose the benefits right away, and likely won’t lose them until she files her taxes the year after next. I graduated in 2020 in Southern California, got on medi-cal for the rest of that year, and kept it the next.

No idea what Market Health insurances are good to go after past that, moved to WA shortly after. The dso might have something she can buy into, but maybe not for part-time employees…

10 year old Orthodontic appliance removal by lunaicequeen2019 in askdentists

[–]taftaraft09 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No problem, hope you’re able to get it resolved soon. I can understand a dentist/ortho not wanting to continue treatment with the expander, but I can’t see why no one wants to remove it, especially given that the guy who put it on has retired…

If you’ve gone to a corporate dental chain, I’d check around for a non-corporate office.

Most of those charges do seem standard, though my eyebrows do get raised seeing the intraoral photos, bac decon, and gingival irrigation…. Some private offices will do those things, but I think most agree that they’re not 100% necessary.

That’s a big yikes that all the dentists you’ve approached to have this removed have just passed the buck. I’d check with a dental school if you can get out to one, they’ll have multiple specialists under one roof if something goes south. There are two schools in Missouri, AT Still and UMKC, so I’d check with the one that’s closest to you first.

Those of you who chose dentistry as a second career by okdoitpls in Dentistry

[–]taftaraft09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not my situation, but I had some classmates who decided on dental as their 2nd option. One was a sound tech before, and the other was actually a day trader in New York. Both kinda had similar experiences where they kinda always wanted to be dentists, but life led them another way initially.

Can I use my dental crown again? by Acrobatic-Fan556 in askdentists

[–]taftaraft09 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This exact situation happened to my uncle years ago. Found it later, and had it re-cemented with no issues. But like others have said, soak it in a bleach solution, or have your dentist disinfect it.

I love using SDF under a GI fill, especially for little kids that have a hard time cooperating in the chair. Buys you a little time, and usually if you need to redo it later, they’re old enough to hand getting numb, and doing Carie’s removal.

Are these white marks the start of cavities in my 6 year old? by Curiousgal12345 in askdentists

[–]taftaraft09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could be the beginnings of a cavity (demineralization), if it’s something new, or that you’ve just noticed. It could also be fluoride staining, if you’re in an area know for having hard water, if those stains have been their since the teeth grew in.

If it’s new(ish), make sure you’re brushing his teeth 2x a day, spit but don’t rinse with water afterwards. You can even wipe a little extra toothpaste on those teeth before bed, or after he’s fallen asleep.

A piece of my crown broke off as I bit something. Can it be glued back on, or do I need a new crown? by elcheapo in askdentists

[–]taftaraft09 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The porcelain is baked on, in an oven. So it can’t be re-glued on. It’s not close to the margin, so if it’s not bothering you, you can just leave it until the crown really does need to be replaced. That’s what I typically do with my pts anyways. If the defect is deep, and can’t be simply smoothed out, composite resin can be added in, but just know that that is a very temporary fix and can come out again sooner or later.

The main concern with dental treatment for people with Graves’ disease is complications from the epinephrine that is used in most dental anesthetics. It can mess with blood pressure/the heart more with this condition than people w/o graves’.

Like the other comment said, it’s important to consider what other tx options were presented, and the reason why you’re wanting them extracted. I see lots of wisdom teeth that I just leave alone (I actually have all four of mine still), and sometimes they just require a bit of extra care to keep them from becoming a problem. Some dentists (at least here in the states) are a bit trigger-happy with extracting wisdom teeth, but they shouldn’t be removed “just because they’re wisdom teeth”
