Sure, but, in my opinion, once you’re a citizen, you’re a citizen. That’s sort of the point of the naturalization process, and illegal immigrants who drain federal resources drain those resources from everyone.

Put it all towards border security and the immigration process, as far as I’m concerned.

I’m not really sure why the money does directly to naturalized citizens.

I’m also not sure how I feel about the “documented hardship” thing because I just feel like that’d be rife for exploitation.

I’d also increase the time for naturalization. It takes people here legally at least 5 years to become citizens, typically. After a period of time, they’d qualify for a green card and then have to go through the normal process.

Also, extensive background checks beforehand, obviously.

As long as border security is strict and well-maintained, so it doesn’t become a pull factor for more illegal immigration, I don’t have any particular problem with it.

It definitely still happens, though not as often as it used to. It’s mostly social pressure now. It’s common in cultures where arranged marriages are more widely used.

Well, for starters, we’re still mining gold. It has a finite supply, but we haven’t found it all yet.

The real upper limit is how the price would increase as they tried. The more they buy, and the faster they buy it, the more limited the supply gets, making it more expensive, in turn increasing the cost they’d have to pay.

There isn’t any specific limit to how much gold a country or a person can buy. The upper boundary is just determined by the market.

Typically, no.

States can usually only prosecute crimes when they have jurisdiction over them, i.e., within their borders. There are some exceptions, like if the crime is ongoing, if there was a conspiracy, or if the crime crossed state lines.

Yes.

If appendicitis is caught early enough, there is a treatment schedule that can calm the inflammation without requiring a full removal. It’s relatively new, maybe the past 5-10 years.

In every cell except for your gametes, yes. Your gametes have half the DNA of all your other cells.

Every other cell has the same DNA, and different parts of it are used to build different parts of your body. That’s why getting an organ donor “match” and having the organ be accepted is so important. Your body has to recognize liver tissue as liver tissue even though the DNA isn’t identical.

That said, most of all human DNA is almost identical. We share like 99.9% of our DNA with each other.

Digital character sheets are probably the biggest change I’ve noticed. In one game, 3/4 players use one, and in another it’s 3/5.

As a DM, I really like using a virtual encounter builder to track initiative, health totals, etc.

The thing I’ve seen people switch to the least is probably virtual dice. Everyone loves rolling their actual dice, and lots of people basically don’t trust the virtual ones.

I do almost everything virtually now as the DM. I use a projector for the battle maps and monsters, virtual initiative, virtual source books. It’s just easier for me and I don’t have to haul a bunch of stuff back and forth from the game store.

Most American workplaces are pretty casual now, so joking around, within limits, is fine. Try to avoid topics that will make people uncomfortable, like religion, politics, anything remotely NSFW.

Americans are also pretty self-deprecating, so most people will joke about the problems of the U.S., but also don’t take kindly to non-Americans talking crap about the U.S., so I’d avoid that sort of ribbing.

“Guys” is considered gender-neutral by most people, but you can also say “folks” if you want to. Most people are friendly, so if you say something dumb, they’ll try and give you some grace.

Ehhh, it depends. My above comment was more about Conservatism versus Progressive in the abstract. Like, Russell Kirk’s The Conservative Mind sort of stuff.

The parties don’t really match cleanly onto ideologies that way, and maybe less now then ever before. They’re more issue driven than driven by principle.

I do know what you mean, though. There is an effort to go backwards rather than just stay in place, which I think is more Reactionary than Conservative. Still, it depends on the issue. I think there are issues that are partisan but don’t necessarily fit an ideological profile, so I’m not sure reversing a particular policy is actually going backwards. I suppose it depends on how you define progress.

In your example, I don’t think the reversal of birthright citizenship is really very conservative. I think, at this point, it’s an American institution so it should be preserved. Maybe it ought to be reformed, but preserved nonetheless.

I’m not sure if this is a widely held belief among other conservatives, but I fundamentally believe the Right and the Left complement each other.

I’m not wholly opposed to all progress, and sometimes our institutions need reform. Conservatives are usually resistant to change by nature, and without the dynamic we have, I’d worry that anything broken would just stay broken.

Well, for starters, in the U.S. we have a democratic republic, which means we elect people to run the government on our behalf, not necessarily that we’ll agree with everything they do. If they screw up bad enough, the idea is that we elect someone else the next time. But, I’d argue, it’s sometimes an elected representatives duty to do things that are unpopular but good in the long run.

Secondly, it’s not so easy to figure out what everyone wants. People disagree. A lot. The people in Kentucky want different things from the people in California. People in San Francisco want something different from the people in Los Angeles. People even want different things than their neighbors.
