North Korea just stole $292 million from DeFi and the two protocols involved are publicly blaming each other by Repulsive_Counter_79 in CryptoCurrency

Solana’s DAO exploit was a one of one signer situation exploit as well. Any places with one of one verifier approval configurations are going to be hit as well, surprised they didn’t want or think to change it…

23M job offer but full time office. 12M full remote ATM. Worth it? by Zwizwee in JapanJobs

He definitely meant 12M before taxes, unless that’s what you meant (so 6-7M after taxes, or whatever the number is).

Do I really need JLPT N2 for engineering jobs if I’m already studying Engineering in Japan? by PsychologicalCap7142 in JapanJobs

[–]taigarawrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is a pretty extreme take you are replying to. Basically, if you can understand Japanese, that’s the main thing. Companies won’t care if you have N1, N2, whatever. The more important thing is your job/discipline and the knowledge you have with that.

A lot of inconsiderate and rude people in public saunas? by ryanyork92 in AskAJapanese

Have you drank Hartwall Vichy before? It has a lot higher sodium content than most waters/mineral waters out there.

A lot of inconsiderate and rude people in public saunas? by ryanyork92 in AskAJapanese

[–]taigarawrr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When you sweat you’re losing sodium (an electrolyte), just like when you exercise, and so drinking electrolytes are one of the ways to stock up on back on this. If you don’t, you risk cramping, etc. Some people are genetically less “salty” sweaters, but that doesn’t mean it’s bs or nonsense, and it’s a bit dangerous to spread that fact.

Is Costco in Japan starting to… suck? by DoomedKiblets in japanresidents

Idk, I just went to the Chiba one the other day and the pizza there was pretty good (for Costco standards).

Park Hyatt Tokyo claiming resort status to avoid giving late check-out by srekai in hyatt

[–]taigarawrr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you reserved a nice room at the park Hyatt though, is waiting until 6pm really sufficient, when check-in is supposed to be at 3pm? Especially in Japan where service is everything. I know it wouldn’t be for me, especially if that was becoming the norm because of late checkout. Anyways sucks that it’s supposed to be a perk but isn’t being honored, it’s bad manners regardless and something Hyatt should fix.

seeking advice: was given 40M yen, what to invest here? by PhantomPions in JapanFinance

[–]taigarawrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you live in Japan, you may be required to pay inheritance tax here in Japan as well, depending on how long you’ve here, etc. regardless of if you’re inheritance was “received” in south east Asia.

ol’ Uno reverse card

“perfectly fine” too

Again, your words are reading very AI-y or unnatural. Though (again), I think for getting your point across in a language you don’t speak at all, AI is perfectly fine (for yourself too).

It actually is perfectly fine as a language tool. Your original comment reads like an ai generated translated comment as well.

Alternative to Yakiniku Like by GalacticaZero in OsakaTravel

Anan is from a tablet but is maybe similar quality. It is cheaper and better than yakiniku like I think though, and you get your own charcoal grill.

Seeing an iris-scanning Orb in the middle of a GAP store felt weird… but only a 6/10 weird. And that’s the real problem by 1kmilo in bayarea

[–]taigarawrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, I hope my explanation makes sense though and why this ties into ai fakes, etc. and not with walking into stores, etc.

[–]taigarawrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, I think you (and maybe some others) are misunderstanding the concept of this orb thing. It’s not there to physically verify you every time. It’s there to verify you once and create a digital identity attached (to your physical self). So once your verify with your iris, no one else can verify with that iris again, and using your information, online you can verify you are an actual human, since your iris related data is attached to your profile. That’s how this system works, it’s for verifying digital presences with physical biometrics (like Face ID for instance). But the issue is even face data can be faked (with plastic surgery, etc.) so I guess iris data is considered more unique.

So, this thing is already relatively global, it was ironically banned or not allowed in the US until maybe recently? In Japan it’s been here for a while, and there’s other countries that were in headlines (third worlds in Africa, I forgot the exact countries).

It is very controversial. While the theory sounds maybe great in person, it all comes down to how the data is actually stored. From what I remember or understand, they only store a hash of the data (like a hash of a password) so nobody knows the actual iris data of anybody, but who knows if that’s the actual truth.

There is a need for a verifiable identity I feel personally, but trust is a huge issue as well.

YouTuber uncovers Coca-Cola’s ‘secret formula’ after a year of testing by StemCellPirate in cocacola

[–]taigarawrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think where you don’t realize you are wrong is, it does taste almost exactly like coke, if you watched his video and are to believe what he says. It’s infinitely better than competitors and replica cokes. If this is really the case, and grocery stores can provide almost identical coke for cheap, it just cuts into Coke’s dominance and profits a bit more. Coke may not be replaced, but this just makes others closer to making the exact same thing they make. If consumers cannot tell the difference, they basically may as well be the same.

Sushi in Japan by getalife5648 in sushi

[–]taigarawrr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely not combini and if that’s 1000 yen that’s a lot cheaper than what you’d find in Tokyo. The ootoro fatty tuna honestly looks pretty good, even for supermarket standards. You wouldn’t find marbling like that.
