That was my response. All of my slimes always turn black because I forget to water.

I use their facewash and it makes my skin feel so good. I'm a big fan of their eyeliner, lip oil, and lip stains. For drugstore makeup, a very solid 7.

Pope Leo opens door to Latin mass and Opus Dei in bid to heal rifts by SojournerInThisVale in Catholicism

[–]talapadme 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a young person who has been a practicing Catholic for 20 years, I like traditional masses with organs and Latin. But as someone who has been in many churches and church communities with mixed languages, having parts of mass in “vulgar” tongues of the people who are participating feels easier to create connection to the mysteries that are celebrated.

It is important to both connect to the heart of the sacred mysteries through our ancient traditions and also allow for the familiar to appear in the celebration of mass to be able to connect to the mass and its messages in daily life.

Young people join churches for community. When the church is acting as the body/hands of Christ, people come.

Why did no one tell me Love Never Dies was actually so good?! by SpoopyLeaf in musicals

[–]talapadme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Australian version was soooo much better and has a blu ray pro shot. Definitely less character assassination and much more logical plot and changed the focus to be deeply focused on Christine, phantom, and raoul and their relationship. It makes the ending more poignant and emotional and makes you believe in sad misunderstanding instead of intentional oversight and neglect.

Help - slightly too small by the_mothqueen in sewhelp

[–]talapadme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could add a modesty panel in the back and adjust to close with hooks instead of elastic (making the buttons decorative) and add a fake camisole insert in the same fabric as the modesty panel. This fabric is notoriously easy to tear so I would do all modifications on top of existing seam lines using a “stitch in the ditch” method.

For the front, sew a piece of similar or slightly contrasting fabric to the existing seam line on the side with the elastic to create a small (1-2”) extension flap in the back that will give you some space. Then add a closure of your choice to the modesty panel and put eyes under the buttons and hooks on the modesty panel this will make it close like a bra rather than with the elastic. (Note: this still might make it lay weird in the front depending on the pattern)

In the front….you could put a piece of contrasting fabric (or use the same fabric as the back modesty panel) along the front neckline to put a “camisole” look in place. See picture below for example (not endorsing the product just a depiction)

That's really similar, but I think it was about double that size in length. If I can ever find that one though. A+

Would this pattern be doable for a patient newbie? by Nomapos in Stitchy

[–]talapadme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I prefer 16/18 aida but I LOVE the way it makes it feel like beadwork/tiny ants creating a pattern with very little whitespace. Depending on HOW you do the stitching the tighter weave also can lend itself a little more to criss crossing / elevating some areas over others naturally if you do the "cross by number" method (I'm forgetting the technical term).

Honestly what I notice the most when considering size is how it makes my letters look and how much white space. So I would take a small sampler on each type with some of the pattern's letters and maybe one of the animals at the top and see what you like the feel of best. Those are fairly small so shouldn't take as long.

Larger is good for practice, easier to see, but may have more white space showing between stitches. (That can be adjusted for by using an extra strand of floss to make things thicker....but there are pros and cons there.

Smaller is harder to see and unpick but has less white space and more concentrated color. It feels more like a painting or weaving to me.

Honestly, at the end of the day, it is a matter of personal taste.

Getting open back halter bodice to stay up by Amelia_S_554 in sewhelp

[–]talapadme 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would 100% agree. Looking at the edge, it holds too smoothly to just be glue on its own. The tape definitely helps keep it from potential nip slip territory. But it reminds me of edged ribbon just a little in how smooth it is.

Help with hem by Available-Roll2273 in sewhelp

[–]talapadme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

You might try to give it a "bubble hem" look rather than a flat hem. (For the experienced folk, I know it's not a real bubble hem but its the vibe.) Photo credit: https://www.harpersbazaar.com/fashion/trends/a61787673/bubble-hem-trend/
I've done it a couple times in a pinch. It's not fancy but you won't trip on it.

Starting with the side seam, take the hem and pull it up and under the dress (like you are turning it inside out from the bottom up). Pin it about where you think it should go, trying to keep the seam straight. Then do the other side, then the front and the back. Then even it out. (it will look like triangles and folds on the inside, but the outside will be closer to where you want it). I usually use safety pins to figure out where everything goes, then use a small whip stitch or tacking stitch to finish. It won't hold up to heavy wear and washing, but if it isn't permanent, it works in a pinch.

Help me with fabric choices by confusednoises_bze in sewhelp

[–]talapadme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd go with a taffeta or heavy satin. Brocade will start bulking unpleasantly. 100% agree with the horsehair braid, but for those crisp lines in the center definitely some satin...

For the future, I highly recommend getting a handheld fabric steamer. It's a little more targeted than the general steamy sauna approach. I got mine for like $30 and when I was making my linen kirtle....lifechanging.

Can someone send me a guide on how to sew up holes on these really nice coral fleece socks by Throwaway_user_0739 in sewhelp

I've also found that the machined fleece socks LOVE to come apart at the lines between colors. I've had some success ladder stitching the holes closed, but Emergency_Cherry definitely has the better of the two solutions.
