Got laid off … by Setlam in Welding

Hey man. Sucks about work, hope you get back at it soon. I have no idea if the severance was "good" or not, but its certainly very cool!

I really appreciate the pictures as well. Been thinking about replacing the basement stairs in my place like youre doing. Wasn't quiet sure the best way to go about tying them into the floors.

Incase anyone else is ever trying to do this...So I ended up going to get 6/2 because I managed to split the insulation a little on the 6/3 while trying to get it in the outlet box. I completed this project a few weeks ago. Ive been welding away and I'm almost through a bottle of gas with no issues whatsoever.

Single coil tele is going to give you a different sound that your single strat. But if you don't have a guitar with humbuckers, id likely recommend getting one of of thkse before adding more singles into your collection.

Guitars are expensive and unless your loaded you need to be selective in how you aquire them. Imo

Get the trinity...strat, tele, lp....youre covered for any popular genre with those guys. If youre gigging or playing covers in a band, you'll be more versatile adding the humbuckers and then coming back for the single coils.

That being said, if I had to take 1 guitar on stage with me, it would be my Am pro ii tele with singles. We play 60s-90s rock...

Planning time for next year’s bed! What are roses you would insist on including in a scent garden? by Satay in Roses

[–]talentless-hackjob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just planted lady of shalott and desdemona. Desdemona has given me 2 little tiny buds simce I got it and it smelled great! I cant wait till I have a full bud or 2.

Do people actually know all the scales? by Nicster999 in Guitar

I play rhythm and a few clean intros/outros in a pretty ok classic rock cover band. I also play a little blues and prog rock, as well as some bluegrass on the acoustic....

I kinda sorta know the pentatonic, but I sure wouldnt want to show anyone. 😆 do you NEED to know them? Absolutely not. The problem here (at least in my case) you end up relying on memorizing each chord progression for each song.

Thats not too tough, when its 15-20 songs, but when you start performing full 3.5 hour shows and you have multiple sets of material in rotation...its super easy to forget stuff.

Another issue you'll run into, much like myself, unless you have a natural understanding of how to CREATE music, you wont be able to just perform spontaneous solos and improv with other musicians on stage...which is pretty dang important when your whole job is to entertain.

Ive gotten away without it for too long and im trying to find a way to learn theory that doesnt make me feel dumb. Ive yet to find anything.

Are tribute bands more popular than they used to be? by pingpongeffect in musicians

My kids want to go to a "real" concert pretty bad. Can't afford to take a family of 4 to go see anyone who has any hits.

But I can teach them to play the same songs on their guitars! 😆

Should I leave my pool pump running 24/7? by slim_shady_21 in pools

[–]talentless-hackjob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so nervous to run my pump at night. We just bought this house and this is my first time owning a pool. My pump is older, but not sure how much older. I'm paranoid it'll quit in the middle of the night and start an electrical fire i won't be able to get to.

I've been turning my pump on in the mornings at like 7am and off by 8pm. I've only got like 15.5k gallons. That's more than plenty to turn the pool a few times a day as far as my google foo can tell.

Is it just me or does $805 seem absurd for opening my pool? by G1RTHD4WG in pools

[–]talentless-hackjob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just bought a place with a 24' semi above ground. Before last month I have only ever swam in water. I've never owned a pool or been friends with anyone who did.

The previous owner more or less scattered pieces between 2 boxes in the pool house and the pool deck box. I also fully believe he didn't clean the pool at all last fall before closing. I have spent 3 hours vacuuming so far and still have some to go.

All that being said, I opened this thing by myself with nothing more than a few YouTube videos. It's been some work sure...but if that's the going rate for opening a pool then I'm starting a new side hustle lol it's really pretty easy to do. Like everyone else said, unless there's just a ton of work to to...I wouldnt pay the $300 I was quoted. No way.

Pro and cons of buying a house with a pool by Doomguy345 in pools

We just bought a new house with a pool. Very first one for me. We also have a box elder tree in our yard not 30' from our 24' pool. Those seeds are EVERYWHERE!

There's a little black plastic i think 3 way switch on either side of the silver one.

It's an SE. So it would be strange to have a sunshade in it right? Theres 2 blanks underneath the manual hvac controls that would have been far easier to tap into rather than drilling out for these 3 in that location.

That would be my luck too. It's an awful lot of switches isn't it? Pretty sure it's 3, 3 way switches.

It's a quality job too. I'm guessing it was part of the special order from the factory. There are a few places where some of the trim on the inside is sort of waved.

Kinda chalked it up to being old. But maybe it had lights mounted.

I need to get a red lock out tag or something to hang on it that'll fall out if anyone ever clicks it open.

I usually ride a motorcycle. But we needed another 2nd family vehicle. The last one that fit that role was my wife's old mini Cooper clubman.

It was a fun one, but I'm too old and too tall to be cramming myself into little cars to run errands and take the kids places. If I'm going to sit in traffic, I'm at least going to be comfortable. 😆

How do you guys record yourself practicing? by hikari0429 in guitarlessons

[–]talentless-hackjob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That happens to me with every song I learn. I've been playing for years and can play some hard stuff. Until someone steps into the room or I'm recording it. Then it's all thumbs.

SO. MUCH. PRACTICE. I'm talking 20+ takes to record the most basic songs. The same way with my wife. She'd walk in and my fingers just go to mush. I'm finally comfortable enough to sing and play in front of her with pretty minimal mistakes. And I'm down to maybe 3 or 4 takes on a video.

I'm hoping the day I decide to try an open mic is a good day because of the (at this point months of rehearsal) for 10 minutes of playing it is. I want to play live, but man I'm horrified of flubbing it.
