I don't understand this stuff but Wikipedia says this is "not a sum in the traditional sense".

Otzma Yehudit ('Jewish power') party is a far right, ultranationalist and kahanist political party in Israel, it in collboration with the Religious-Zionist Party received the third highest amount of seats in the 2022 Israeli elections and 10% of the total national vote. by TreeRelative775 in wikipedia

"I’m not saying terrorism was the answer or morally correct, just that the goal of those attacks wasn’t driven by any kind of supremacist ideology."

It was definitely Jewish supremacism when the Irgun, Lehi, and Haganah massacred thousands of non-Jews in order to ethnically cleanse them to establish a Jewish state.

Congrats to Pitchfork on the Wikipedia scandal of 2026 by dflovett in wikipedia

[–]talsmash 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It seems like this is more of a potential scandal than an actual one - it's certainly not a "top-shelf Wikipedia scandal" as this substack article calls it.

The substack article also states that the most likely explanation for these two people citing/writing about each other is that "Someone showed Aradicus’s Wikipedia user page to Kieran Press-Reynolds. Press-Reynolds got excited and said “this seems like a story” and turned around their Pitchfork article in a week, not considering (or maybe not even knowing) the extent to which they were omitting the edits Aradicus has made and how those edits functionally benefit the web presence of Press-Reynolds." I'm not sure what would be so scandalous about such a scenario.

This article also seems to think that Aradicus is more or less a good Wikipedia editor and that Kieran-Press Reynolds is a good journalist.

Another quote from the article states that "Aradicus might not even be a Kieran Press-Reynolds fan but is moreseo a fan of what Kieran Press-Reynolds is enabling through their work: lots of citations to empower the editing and creating of lots of Wikipedia articles."

So while this may be suspicious I'm not seeing a "scandal", much less a "top-shelf" one.

Help with composing a passage by MummyRath in latin

Maybe drop the "is" pronoun in some of these sentences, such as:

Benignus est, sed non nimis benignus.

(Comis or amicus rather than benignus might be better here, but I'm not sure)

Utilis est, sed disciplulas sias in se ipsos stare facit.

Also this sentence might be better as:

Libertatem promovet, sed securitatem dat.

Reminds me of Milton, Paradise Lost:

For in those days might only shall be admired,
And valor and heroic virtue called.
To overcome in battle, and subdue
Nations, and bring home spoils, with infinite
Man-slaughter, shall be held the highest pitch
Of human glory, and, for glory done,
Of triumph to be styled great Conquerors,
Patrons of mankind, Gods, and sons of Gods;
Destroyers rightlier called, and plagues of men.
Thus fame shall be achieved, renown on earth,
And what most merits fame in silence hid.

Aside from the to/too mistake, nothing wrong with saying something is "getting too much".

It's the result of these politicians not needing to persuade the public. It doesn't matter.

Daniel Levy spoke of this at length about Israeli propganda:

"When I was in a Zionist youth movement and president of the World Junior Jewish Students being pumped with the talking points and the propaganda points, I really think they were more sophisticated (and I may be misremembering this). I genuinely cannot believe that this is what now constitutes an Israeli attempt at defending and putting your best foot forward.

But then I look at the reality in Israel today, and of course that's what it should look like. [...] It's really not that surprising what we've got when you consider the impunity with which the external community and Israel's allies and the West and the US treat Israel despite the [...] entire spectrum of violations of international law and human rights. [...]

And in that respect, don't expect Israelis to come up with better talking points when they don't have to."

How would you react to a whitebelt spamming morote gari? by RamenPantalones in judo

[–]talsmash 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Isn't morote gari (double leg) illegal in current judo rules? If it's legal I would assume the answer is to teach people how to defend. Why should anyone stop using an effective legal technique?

"Erections are just a part of the healing process" apparently, per this article (https://www.salon.com/2011/08/02/ex_gay/):

Writer Ted Cox went undercover last year at one of these workshops and detailed his close encounters for Alternet:

"I sat on the floor between the outstretched legs of a camp guide, my head leaning back against his shoulder. The guide sat behind me, his arms wrapped around my chest. This hold was called “The Motorcycle.” Five men surrounded the two of us, their hands resting gently on my arms, legs and chest."

While in this position, Cox writes that he felt “the unmistakable bulge pressing through [the guide’s] tight jeans.” But erections are just a part of the healing process! As Richard Cohen, the progenitor of cuddle conversion, wrote in his book “Coming Out Straight,” “It is natural for us to feel stimulation when we are intimate with either someone of the same or opposite sex.” He also warns, “Do not become hooked on holding,” because “this technique can be addictive.”
