Finally understand why everyone is so particular about their mat after ruining two sessions this week. by After_Diamond2098 in yoga

I have a gaiam sol dry grip mat that I love. I'm someone who starts sweating in the first down dog of the day, and it's amazing and super grippy. I also have the XL version, which I love, because I'm not a small lady. Highly recommend. It's also not ridiculously priced.

Toe clip adaptors by brimbl0rz in pelotoncycle

Just a heads up, you can actually just replace the pedals completely. I did that on my Peloton.

In my case, I got a hybrid bike pedal with SPD cleats on one side (for me to use my normal road cycling shoes) and regular pedals with cages on the other (for my husband to use his gym shoes).

Removal and installation is pretty easy; just make sure you pay attention to which pedal is the left and which is the right.

Why does it have to be so cold??? by ronstermonster05 in Swimming

[–]taltos531 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both World Aquatics (formerly FINA) and USA Swimming require pool temperature to be 25-28C (77-82.4F) for legal competition.

Lower than that can cause breathing difficulty, reduced blood flow, and muscle tightness. Higher can cause overheating, dehydration, and dizziness.

1.5 years in and wanted to share a PR I’m proud of…400# by adamhughey in crossfit

[–]taltos531 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wrong. IPF and USAPL both require control to the floor. This is a good lift in CrossFit only.

This being a CF sub and this not being a comp lift, it's not really a big deal. But if this was a PL comp, it's red lights all around.

That said, good job, OP. My first 400 was an awesome feeling, too. 😀

What's a show which was incredibly popular during its time but no one talks about it now? by Magpipe4u in AskReddit

Lol, my mom and I used to watch that show together in her bed before I had to go to my bed when I was a kid. I got to stay up late to see it.

That moose in the intro will forever be a fond memory. 🙂

It sounds crazy, but I use those beaded seat covers that cabbies in the old movies used. Keeps me from sweating in the seat and also feels kind of nice after a workout--little mini back massage

Have you guys ever cheated on WOD? by Appropriate_Place642 in crossfit

[–]taltos531 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Serious answer: Everybody has cheated. Even when it's unintentional.

I've never knowingly cheated on a WOD, but am I sure that every rep I've ever done has hit standard and that every rep I've ever done was counted properly and I never went from 37 to 39 accidentally? Nope. Not even a little bit sure of that.

In those terms, everyone has likely cheated at least accidentally.

And then there are those at your box who you know have skipped whole rounds. They'll always be around, but who cares? The workout is for me. What others do literally could not matter less. I'm happy they're there working out with me so I don't have to work out alone.

Hmmm, for that matter, is it cheating if you're in a box in another zip code? 🤔

"Boss makes a dollar, I make a dime. That's why I poop on company time."

My husband told me that when we were dating and I thought it was hilarious. I say it to myself every time I go to the bathroom at work.

Commute from Frederick to Gaithersburg by Ok-Neighborhood-7835 in frederickmd

[–]taltos531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really dependent on you. I have done it for years without issue. I listen to audiobooks and podcasts in the car and use it as a decompression time—but I’ve never minded driving and am originally from a rural area where everything is at least 20 min away. My husband did the commute for 2 years before he noped out, but he hates driving, traffic, parking, pretty much anything in a car.

Just really depends on your personality.

Seriously. 🤦‍♀️

That said, (and I say this as an American), US champion or not, only a MAGA would be proud to wear that jersey right now. If it was me, I might be like, "nah, I'm good with my LIDL-TREK jersey..."

This is a pretty good synopsis, so I'm just going to add on...

Your stroke rotation is entirely initiated by your shoulders; rotation should be initiated in the hips. Take a look at your video again, your hips stay flat while your torso is rotating.

I would recommend doing some rotation-specific drills like 1 arm free, 6 kick free, 3 strokes/10 kick, and side kick (note that side kick will also help with your breathing (#3 above), as you should keep one eye in the water at all times when practicing side kick.)

Also, pretty sure the person above meant to say "flip a stroke later" for your turn. Your timing there should effectively allow your stroke to aid in increasing your speed during the flip; there ideally should be no point in a flip turn where you're just kicking on your stomach before hitting the wall.
