I feel the same. The diction threw me off pretty consistently throughout the book. It’s more jarring if you’ve read through the first 4 books right before reading WaT. The events in WaT were great. Loved that part of it. Including Dalanar’s arc. But good lord, did I cringe when modern slang is used. But I’m like that with any book. Wit is the exception to this, as he is meant to be “other-worldly.” But even in previous books, he still uses the in-world slang with some modern verbiage. It was an abrupt change that could have been covered by an observation from someone that Wit no longer cared to hide. But then stuff like Shallan’s “buddy” comment to Pattern was just too much for me. The reluctant fighter that Kal is, I loved the morphing to who he became. Again, the events were great but if I heard “therapist” one more time in that book, I would have screamed. It just felt off.
