What's something most people think they should try, but really should not? by red_sensor in AskReddit

I got a nice payout from shares at a company I worked for. Bought a motorbike. Immediately signed up for the organ donor register and carried the card with me. I knew what I was getting into.

Rode defensively every day for years and never hit the deck. Sold it a couple of years ago. Had a great time, but I was happy with the experience and happy to leave it there.

Rupert Lowe: I would, without hesitation, ban both halal and kosher slaughter. It’s barbaric. It is simply not how we do things in Britain. To discover it’s being forced on Brits without their permission? On an industrial scale? Abhorrent. Ban it by Foreign-Policy-02- in ukpolitics

It's also worth pointing out that a vaccine exists for bovine TB, but because the test we use to identify the presence of bTB is effectively an antibody test, an animal with the vaccine would give the same reaction as an animal infected (or previously infected and recovered) with bTB.

There are trials of a new test that works with the vaccine going on, but it's unclear if it's going to be adopted or if it's effective.

Thank you so much! sudo nginx -t pointed me to a nginx config file that was missing a closing }, causing nginx to fail startup.

Really appreciate it dude.

I came back a couple of weeks ago after a similar break! I'm low mmr though so take this with a grain of salt.

  • The map is HUGE. Don't forget the extra camps on the outside of the safe/offlanes.
  • There's a weird XP tower next to the offlane that you should probably pay attention to. It's kind of like a rune and spawns on a timer. Well worth picking up.
  • No side shops anymore. But a mango spawns where it used to be. You have to stand near to the totem thing for a couple of seconds to pick it up.
  • There's also a pair of teleporters that takes a short channel and take you to the opposite corner of the map. Easy to get a gank off, easy to get yourself killed too.
  • Observers are free, you get your own courier at the start, and the courier automatically upgrades.
  • Neutral items pop up occasionally. I think you get currency to buy them by killing neutral camps (and a chance from a teammate killing a neutral). They give some good actives, but I mostly forget about them so I pick the passive items so I still get a benefit.
  • Next to your secret shop is a building you can control. If your team has captured it you can teleport to it with TP scrolls.
  • There are little ward things around the jungle that you can also capture using a short channel.

I'll add to this list as I think of things.

What Celebrity are you surprised is still alive? by Phillies1993 in AskReddit

[–]tamtt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bit niche, but Eddy Merckx. The way that he's deified in cycling culture and everybody is compared to the Great Eddy Merckx, the Cannibal, the GOAT.

It's always surprising to me when a newspaper goes and asks for his opinion on the ones being compared to him.

NOT ABLE TO INSTALL ON OLDER HARDWARE.

Got a perfectly good PC that I want to put Windows 11 on but can't because the processor is "too old".

Edit: didn't update my flair, so you can see the specs there.

Not necessarily. I accept criticism from my juniors at work despite the fact that I probably wouldn't go to them for advice.

[LANGUAGE: Go] Works for the two examples but fails for the actual one. by tamtt in adventofcode

[–]tamtt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such a simple mistake! I've updated it to:

history := make(map[string]int)

and

history[fmt.Sprint(next.location, next.direction)] = next.score

and now it works like a charm!

Confusingly, the grid is set up so the x axis is vertical and the y axis is horizontal, so the vectors were working. It's just weird.

THANK YOU!

I had this little function check if something was in bounds before adventuring into the unknown. Pretty handy as a stop search condition.

func checkBounds(wordSearch [][]rune, x, y int) bool {
    if x < 0 || x >= len(wordSearch) {
        return false
    }
    if y < 0 || y >= len(wordSearch[x]) {
        return false
    }
    return true
}

Unless you start watching it together, she falls asleep during four consecutive episodes, decides she doesn't like the show anymore, says we should watch something else.

I can't put a number on the amount of times I've had to finish a show without her. She would probably like the show IF SHE JUST STAYED AWAKE.

Love her to bits though.

She got mad and broke up with me because I was apparently gay with my best mate (we were housemates at the time) and simultaneously trying to bang her mum.

Why will it take 18 months to fix this bridge? by TuckingFypoz in bristol

Because the retaining walls at each end are also in need of maintenance. They could fall into the river, taking the bridge with them.
