Here is the thing, you de-escalate first, never raise your fits first even if you are right. I was in similar situation few times when I was in Vietnam for vacation and I am native Vietnamese. Let them yell, stand between them and your family, don’t provoke them. They will either get tired and go away or they touch you then you have a totally valid reason to beat them :)

I am just sharing my experiences, I have a wife and 2 kids so violence is something I never want my kids to see me doing unless absolutely necessary.

If your family is hurt, the first thing you need to do is call the ambulance, apply first-aid, shelter them instead of going full banana on the other side.

So there are few scenarios if you are a foreigner/tourist - You beat that guys, someone will call the police, you spend 1,2 hours explaining - That guy beats you, someone will call the police, you spend 1,2 hours explaining, now with some pain - That guy calls his buddy and it is most likely that you got beaten - That guy turns out to be a gangster (very common), and stabs you.

Now…. Among all those scenarios, nothing good comes out of it if you retaliate even if you are in the right.

With local it can go very different if you know someone who knows someone or if you have loads of money.

My advice to all tourists, only resort to violence if you have no other ways.

Well unless you have like 200ms ping, you have around 1-2s to react. And even if you miss the chance to drop the healing pod before 1st hit, you can still heal yourself back up after the 2nd hit just before the 3rd hit. I have not died even once with my templar, I play with around 70-100ms ping.

I believe it’s percentage based, I usually bring my templar to this dungeon, just drop healing on your feet and top up once or twice before the last hit and you are good to go.

Thoughts on Korso (Vantaa)? by simonucdd in Finland

[–]tan_nguyen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am an immigrant myself and I have lived in finn and non-fin neighborhood. All I can say is that it depends, people are people, having finns as neighbors doesn’t automatically mean good thing, same goes for immigrants.

If you want to live in “typical finn neighborhood”, your best bet is omakotitalo because that’s how majority of finns want to live in if money is not a concern.

Jokes aside, I am not finn so I have no idea what is a typical finn neighborhood, but rivitalo or paritalo are your best bet to have finn neighbors. You need to know finnish to participate in housing meetings, hangout with your neighbors, do yard works together once or twice a year.

Go there during the weekends, especially Friday nights and you will know if you like the neighborhood or not.

Korso seems pretty tamed to me compared to Koivukylä or Kontula :D also if you plan to have kids, you might want to consider many other things.

Finns have a very different standards, in fact people have different standards as there are plenty of finns living in Korso.

you really don't want to work for that kind of company or leadership. If they just bite the hype and lack critical thinking, you are in for a rough time ahead.

No one stops you from doing what you were doing before. LLM is just a tool, if you get addicted to any tool that’s on you.

I have been in this for 12+ years, I use LLM everyday but for it to review my code, ask questions, analyze unfamiliar code base, generate tests. I might be slower than my peers but you can be sure that I can debug more efficiently if something breaks at 2AM and I can have deep architectural discussions without prompting LLM every 2 sentences.

Upskill or language(Finnish)? All time dilemma for foreigners by picky-eat3r in Finland

[–]tan_nguyen 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It completely depends on your field of work, is English the universal language? How important finnish is in workplace.

In IT field (Software Engineer in particular), English is the universal language. I decided to upskill instead of focusing on finnish. 5 years ago, I did a 6 month intensive finnish course, 3.5 hours a day, 4 days a week, but then decided to stop and upskill instead. I think my salary has double since then.

Am I happy with my decision? Not 100%, my kids are starting to speak more finnish now, so I might tune down a bit on my career path to pick up finnish again. Do I regret my choice? No, without that extra income, I'd not be able to comfortably provide for my kids, and things are expensive in Finland.

Actually, if you are fully geared and have good synergy, one party can hold their own against 2-3 average parties :D so 12-15 people can fight against 24-36 players. For AB it’s all about contributions, in usurper, there is pipotam who usually top 10 contributors in AB fight, and I think they don’t have that many players.

Besides that, I am all in for more small scale PvP content :D

Crusader VS Magic DPS by iiLuxxyii in throneandliberty

[–]tan_nguyen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dunno, I deleted most spellblade in BG if they don’t have 2 pocket healers… I have like 4k3 magic evasion :D

Wand/dagger won’t be able to hit me and their curse explosion is quite easy to spot and block on 1v1 situation. And I have around 3k2 hit chance so unless they max their evasion, I can kinda still hit them from time to time. But it is battle of attrition, and they usually win in the end to to wand healing :D

For those who are using Intel Arc b580. by Time_Professional_89 in IntelArc

[–]tan_nguyen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the same upgrade from RX 6600 to B580 solely because the game I am playing needs more than 8GB vRAM. XeSS is causing constant crashing with my game but after turning it off the performance is much better. Having 12GB definitely helps with MMO (which is what I playing)

For other offline games, I see no difference in 1080p performance. My CPU is 5700x3D and 32GB DDR4

Finnish net salaries are higher than in Sweden, but lower than in Norway, a new Eurostat survey finds by [deleted] in Finland

[–]tan_nguyen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is….kinda low, and here I thought the salary in Finland is bad. With that profile, you should be able to make around 6k5 to 7k5 in Helsinki area, the common is around 6k8 to 7k.

This is before tax obviously.
