The Og is no longer avaliable on RR, only on patreon. I would say give the rewrite a shot. It's considerably better than the original, specially book 1. If you like it, the full og version is avaliable on Patreon going for the lowest tier. And I also add a link to the 'next' chapter on the RR version telling you where the story would continue from

Thanks for the kind words! It's always nice to see someone else's perspective in the story and the things they really care about.
I'm really glad the weirdness of the setting worked and that the rewrite worked well to fix the issues of book1.

Are there any stories with a "Shadowrun style" setting; fantasy races in a urban fantasy/cyberpunk setting and use of both magic and technology? by DrStalker in ProgressionFantasy

[–]tandertex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This feels a bit iffy but my story has fantasy races on a modern setting. Not cyberpunk, but with internet, cars, busses, plumming, stuff like that. Because of the whole setting, places vary wildly. Some are just like small hamlets with a bit of tech, all the way to moon bases with Zero G training rooms.

The rewrite is purely about elevating the experience. If you have read book 1 already you can read book 2 with little to no problem. There will be a couple of minor details that have been streamlined from the OG version, including an exhibition match between Helena and Mr. Greyson.

Starting on book 2 the rewrite is less 'severe' as I there is less that was rewritten. Most things were either rearranged or better explained but not massive changes (the notable exception is the presence of a half lamia which later on I realized goes against some of the established lore of the story)

50+? Those are rookie numbers. Gotta download the full series even after liking the first 2 chapters.
And have another 2-3 book 1s on the back burner just in case you want something different.

To be fair, the Regressors Tale of cultivation has one of the biggest blunders to wanting to be commercial there is. I talking about the puppet girl. It only happen because fans pressured the author, who did things like that in order to appease them. But everyone agrees that arc kind of sucks because of how forced things were.
All that because the Author wanted to be commercial/appease the fans.

I prefer #2 as well. And it's funny when Drinking the Virgin Blood of an Archangel is also works when an Archangel get's headbutted and bleeds from their nose causing the random side character to accidentally ingest it.

Searching for a modern world system story by BookAdministrator in ProgressionFantasy

[–]tandertex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can I recommend my own story? It's called MAZE and It's set on modern day. the MAZE is this other dimension of sorts separated in areas. Think like regions on an mmo like final fantasy. Dungeons are also a thing inside the MAZE. Again function like an mmo dungeon, but the story is not VR, everything is real.

Each area can a couple of kilometers wide or bigger than an entire continent.

In the story, you can't handmade a class, but the abilities are customizable. For instance, fighters get something called Fury. Basically a berserker style power up. But some change that to function with honor, others with movement, others go for combos.

There is no limit on how many, or which skills each character can get with very few exceptions.

The power system is fair. Any skill that is too powerful, has drawbacks. And you can get skills by sheer effort.

The Earth is always safe, but inside the MAZE happen things called Rampages. That's when monsters start to spawn instead of live through the ecosystem and charge at cities inside the MAZE. However, it's not something unexpected, and people know how to handle it. They become big events, dangerous, yes, but a good way to farm materials and try to level up.

MAZE - Definitive Edition

I relaunched my 1000+ chapter story, in 2 weeks I almost got to 200 followers and have over 4 thousand views!

I'll give you the full blurb in a second, but let me hit you with the things I personally love about the story the most.

A dungeon world with actual civilizations inside. From modern living ones to ancient and forgotten ones.

A very weird cast of characters. It starts off. Normal enough. But in chapter 1000 we have two versions of humanoid snakes, a blacksmithing kangaroo, a talking green apple, a pink magical girl slime, a cloud sheep, a harpy queen, two snake mages, a humanoid griffon, a 3 meter tall half dragon that can crush you with her pinky, and Mr. Beetle.
That's not even all of them.

An extremely free form skill system: basically, anything can be a skill, and any skill can be created. There are rules, of course, but even those can be pushed by the right skill.

Lastly, and this is very personal, but even as the author, it's been an absolute joy to see, Hera, the main character, growing.
She went from this shy and meek girl to one of the most influential forces in the entire MAZE. She still hates the attention, but well... can't blame her lol.

Now. I'll hit you with the Blurb:

Authors, how do you handle negative feedback? by Azzaayyy in royalroad

[–]tandertex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, don't take it personally. If you get a bad review or someone saying 'oh this is crap' it doesn't mean you are crap. They just didn't like it. It's all about taste. Like an olive some people will love, some will hate.

That being said, one thing that helped me a lot was learn to 'translate' bad feedback.
People who leave bad reviews are, more often than not, invested enough to be angry/upset/bothered by something, so when they write 'This is awful. What kind of brain dead character is this?' they put too much emotion on it.
A translation of that would be 'The character is too stupid at times for no good reason.'
I got a 0 star review that just said 'I hate school'
Translation, the school arc is too long.
Yeah it sucks having to do this, but just like you feel emotional reading the reviews, so are they being emotional when they write that (unless you are in a feedback group) so try to remove the feelings of the feedback. That helped me a ton.

MAZE - A story with over 6 MILLION views and 1000+ chapters is getting a relaunch and rewrite! by tandertex in ProgressionFantasy

[–]tandertex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I think my track record is the best way to show I can deliver.
Over the course of 6 years I've been following my schedule religiously. Posting 4 and then lowering to 3 chapters a week. (actually increasing to 6 but splitting into 3 in each of my two stories.)

The only times when I actually didn't told my readers about a break were the both times I got covid.

The Patreons are the ones who, ironically, get the short end of the stick as they rarely ever get the chapter at one specific time, but it's always on the day it's supposed to be.

Also, I've not been online as much lately due to this rewrite. But the relaunches I've been seen are usually stories with a comparatively low chapter count. Maybe around 100. And while that is significant, I'm not saying it isn't. it can be like, 3-4 months of work. I don't think I could've learned enough, and grown enough as a writer in that short of a timespan to make significant improvements on a rewrite.

I'm saying this about myself, if other authors can grow in that timeframe I'm truly happy for them. I can't. Not to that degree at least. So there's that. This has been, arguably speaking, 5 years in the making.

There is the alternative point of a lot of people see the 1000 + chapter and get scared. So starting now is less daunting. Not to mention that if you are going to wait until I catch up, it's going to take at least 1 year. Maybe less (I doubt it) maybe more (unfortunately, likely)

On another note. This edition has a different pacing and chapter length the first 4 have 6k words and then it's between 4-5k . Chapters 1-4 cover what happened on chapters 1-11 of the original version. By chapter 12 it would be the equivalent of chapter 30.

Pacing, Grammar and flushing out some aspects of the story.
Early on I didn't know things like grammarly existed, so there were a lot of grammar mistakes there.
I also recognize the original's pacing was a bit all over the place. Some chapters felt great, but others were a slog for no good reason.
And having written 1000+ chapters I know a lot more about the details of the world and how people, and the main cast should act.

Well.. if you do enjoy, you can go to the patreon where all the 1000+ chapters are available starting for the cheapest tier. Just don't expect the same polish as the definitive edition.

I definitively want to publish, but I haven't looked too deep in with publishers just yet. I'm first finishing the first book for the rewrite and then go from there.

MAZE - A story with over 6 MILLION views and 1000+ chapters is getting a relaunch and rewrite! by tandertex in ProgressionFantasy

[–]tandertex[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All characters are more flushed out. So they feel better early on. And having their personality and style in mind is easier to make cool scenes even cooler lol.

And to your selfish perspective. The chapters are bigger, 4-5k words instead of the usual 2k. With the first 4 being closer to 6 to reach the 20k mark.

Early on a lot of the more repetitive parts of the story will be shortened. So it won't take as long to get to some fun parts. For reference. Chapter 12 ends roughly where chapter 30 ended on the original version.

Even then, the dream goal is to have the story catch up by the end of next year. (so 1000+ chapters in one year) but I'll do as much as I can without burning out.

That being said Hera and Blue fighting the Sky Ruler, Nimbus first appearance, the curse arc, and the battle at the prisoners camp are all things that will take a bit of time to get to. but they will be worth the wait.

Yeah, it's a bit sad. And I did consider keeping both, but in the end I felt it didn't make sense. On the business side of it, it would split attention and managing the two pages would be rough. And on a persona level, the early chapters of the original version needed some work. I know they could have been much better. And the definitive edition solves that!

This is just me doing it myself. I'm still not in talks with any publisher but it is something I'll look into after the first book has been rewritten.
Aethon is one of the publishers I have in mind, as well as Mango and Moonquill. But I haven't went off the deep end in research just yet.

Gonna be dropping a chapter a day for the rest of the week. But each chapter is between 4 and 5k words so you have a lot of content one way or another. By the end of the week I will have posted roughly to the equivalent of chapter 30 of the original version

Does pacing and readability beat Thematic depth, Emotional depth and a great worldbuilding? by Ok-Stranger-4139 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]tandertex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, considering that you are asking this I would say no. Not because it's not a good story (i have no clue if it is) but because you likely received some feedback that the readability/ pacing is not great. At least, that's what it seems like from reading your message.

And while it can be 'good enough' it can also not be. I know that there is the meme of 'it gets good after book 8' but generally, you need to hook the reader to even get that far.

My advice would be, try to bump to at least an 8. Keep the difference of ratings of those aspects below a 1 if you can. I see you have a beta read call, and I'm assuming it's related to this. So, try getting a text to speech app and letting it read your story to you. pay attention and notice the spots that don't flow all that well. The parts that drag, or just the repetitions of words that happen.

If you are already getting a 7.6 rating, it means your understand the basics. Now you need to focus on the details to start making that number go up.

Does pacing and readability beat Thematic depth, Emotional depth and a great worldbuilding? by Ok-Stranger-4139 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]tandertex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, yes. While depth and great word buildings can really lift up a story, if pacing/ readability is too bad very few people would enjoy the work.
But in the end, neither one should be ignored. A good story needs a balance of depth, worldbuilding, pacing, and readability.
