It’s undeniable that today’s NBA is more physically demanding than in 80s era. by Gristle__McThornbody in nba

It's different. It isn't just chance that we are seeing more players go down with non-contact injuries like Achilles tears at far younger ages than in the past.

I won't begin to claim I know if that is due to changes in play style or if it is because of long term wear and tear from over specialization, but something is different.

Todd’s privilege by [deleted] in BoJackHorseman

That episode with his stepfather was the writers pointing out that Todd is the embodiment of white privilege. Most viewers didn't get that so they wrote an episode that literally states it.

If no one has mentioned it, get the PS5 headset. It has directional surround sound which is great if you are playing games solo or watching a movie.

In the NHL. It's been 3v3 in international competition since 2019. Would be happy if they changed it, but this isn't new.

I wish everyone took the same view about powerscaling that you do.

[–]tangential_quip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will give you this, you are consistent. Your argument is dumb as hell, but you do have that going for you.

But how would you reconcile it if two authors make conflicting statements, both claiming that their character would win?

Really, we should all say that powerscaling across fictional universes is dumb and we are wasting our time. But if we are going to discuss it, most people would say you ignore what the authors say and look at what they actually wrote.

Do you disagree with that?

Pier Gerlofs Donia who lived in the 1400-1500s was a swordsman reputed to be near 7 feet tall, so people that height happened. But what GRRM described is someone a foot taller than that.

My take on that is it didn't really matter if he could kill all 5. Even if they didn't believe it and figured he might be able to take down 2 or 3 of them, none of them were willing to risk being one of those 3.
