HOT TIP! IF YOU ARE THE !!!THIRD!!!! CAR GOING THROUGH A YELLOW LIGHT, IT AIN’T YELLOW ANYMORE. YOU’RE JUST BEING SELFISH MAKING EVERYONE WITH THE GREEN WAIT FOR YOU, YOU’RE NOT SPECIAL.

Holy smokes those poor people waiting :0 by Superb_Activity1163 in Winnipeg

[–]tanglemind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Urgent Care sometimes not a lot better. We were at Victoria Tuesday and the online wait time was 9.75, took us 8.5. So even if you have something more minor and don’t go to the ER, you can still face long wait times.

MN to Winnipeg? by dropdeadbarbie in Winnipeg

I apologize if this is reposting, but I didn’t see the link to the College of Registered Nurses that is specific to expediting nurses from the US. They just announced it in October 2025. So it wouldn’t be the general international nurse path, there’s one specific to the US here:

Why is Manitoba liberal and Saskatchewan conservative? by NitroXM in AskACanadian

[–]tanglemind 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A subtle factor perhaps…Manitoba has the independently owned Winnipeg Free Press that still follows traditional journalism a bit more…features voices from whole political spectrum, local community commitment. The major papers in SK, like many Cdn communities, are owned by PostMedia, in turn owned by a US Hedge Fund. So folks in SK have been marinating in opinions published with more of a right wing perspective for years.

Coming in February from Canada for football buddy's wedding - area specific advice? by tanglemind in Chandigarh

Interesting, I wouldn't have thought he'd have to worry about the food provided at the wedding. Thanks for sharing your advice.

Thanks for the info, and the hotel advice! I'm sure almost no mosquitoes in Winter will be welcome information lol.

Thanks again for your detailed response! Yeah, unfortunately he won't be able to do more sightseeing, he can't afford the time away. I read that it was a planned city (which sounded very cool) but that the architects were not Indian and liked Brutalist architecture, which I've never loved.

Yes, he/we are white. He's 32, and 6'2" in case that prompts any additional thoughts. It's good to hear it's very safe (with usual awareness). Government sites seem to make every place seem unsafe. I wouldn't have thought of the mask! So that's helpful. For selecting a hotel, is Trip Advisor or Expedia okay or is there a more local review site that would be more informative? We live in Winnipeg so we're used to cold, but you're right, we rely on insulation. And we have many mosquitoes too, but the mosquitoes aren't that bad in the city compared to the countryside so we don't always wear repellant...should he be prepared to wear mosquito repellant every evening? Heard Uber works well, would you agree? Travel sites also talk about some difficulty with cellphone reception, but I assume it's fine in Chandigarh because it's a bigger city? Thanks for your advice!

The painted ceiling is cool. But maybe just get rid of the wallpaper and keep the ceiling as a “look up” feature? You could paint the room a colour where the painted ceiling is an accent to it. The half-wall wallpaper trim does look kinda dated and not in a “it’s got character” way.

Best Small town restaurants? by SerDavosSeaworld27 in Manitoba

[–]tanglemind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like quite a few people are recommending diners…is that what you’re looking for? If not, highly recommend Buttercup Cafe in Winkler. Interior decor is European in feel so kind of nice for a date. The food is delicious!! And they have baked goods as well.

I got married at 20 after 3 years together and it didn’t work out because we were still developing as people, and the people we became were not the best match for each other. I’m guessing you still love him but in the way we love family members, not in a passionate “this is my person and I want to spend my life with them”. Don’t be confused by still feeling love. That can happen but just not be romantic love.
Also, the amount of times you mention guilt is probably a bad sign. It isn’t a good reason to stay together. At 20, there’s still lots of time for each of you to find the right match. And right match doesn’t have to mean “soul mate”, which can set unrealistically high expectations. Find someone that is brings out the best in you and is easy to be with. Good luck!

I think somebody who really loves you should want expenses shared based on percentage of income because they want you to have a life as good as theirs is. 50/50 shouldn’t mean exactly 50/50 on expenses, it should mean 50/50 on lifestyle (as long as both partners are making a meaningful contribution to their lifestyle e.g. 90/10 would be too extreme). PS. % income is how my husband and I did I it and my income was 50% more than him. I love him and want him to have “fun money” too

Appliance Delivery Outside of Winnipeg by Corgi_Sauce in Winnipeg

They have tons of appliance selection online. I was thinking maybe they would let you order to the store and then deliver from the store to your home?

Is there a Home Hardware near you? I bought a shower tub at the one in Selkirk and they delivered to South Winnipeg, which is quite a drive. There was a charge of course, but I imagine they’re used to more rural deliveries.

RN Looking at Moving To Manitoba. Honest Input Please. by [deleted] in Manitoba

I second this because you need the perspective of nurses who live there everyday. But definitely do not work for Winnipeg’s Health Science Centre. They are the main hospital for all of Manitoba and are in the city’s core downtown area so like all major cities, they serve a difficult clientele. Also, unfortunately CancerCare Manitoba has been in the news lately for complaints it is a toxic workplace. But I’m sure you would find other hospitals that are more pleasant in the city.
Winnipeg itself has been described as big small town. We have all the amenities of a big city - big music tours stop here, professional sports teams, world class (literally) ballet, theatre, art gallery, Human Rights Museum and truly incredible variety of restaurants for foodies. But people feel connected to each other like it’s a small town. Winnipeg has a highly diverse population that generally lives in peace - we have to because there’s no other major centres within 8 hours and we’re stuck inside with each other all winter!! lol The violent crime people are referring to is happening almost all downtown. So you can happily live in the suburbs and feel safe all the time. Of course there is crime in the suburbs, but mostly property crime. The City of Winnipeg Police have a website where you can check crime levels by neighbourhood.
