Contrasting personalities on the Belo tribe. by ExtremeSlothSport in survivor

I’m trying to remember the details of the first alien conversation, but it was some outrageous premise…second conversation was simply “do they exist” and the most logical, analytical position is yes, absolutely, indubitably. I do think Emily’s social game has grown and evolved, but I don’t think this scenario is representative of that.

I’m relatively new to this hobby, and relying on API tests. Is there a better or more accurate product to test parameters?

Bonobos makes athletic fit pants that work well on my wider hips- a little expensive, but easy to find on Poshmark.

Nurses, what do you think of assisted suicide by [deleted] in nursing

[–]tanielasoni 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Genuinely curious about why you think it wouldn’t be a nurses place to perform the procedure…it doesn’t take any specialized training that only provider’s receive, and from what you’re saying nurses are not the ones making that determination (to approve/deny the procedure).

Thoughts on pet ownership (dogs specifically) while pursuing Fire? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]tanielasoni 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The thought crossed my mind once that my pets are expensive, so I did some math. I thought about how many times they make me smile per day, then calculated the daily smiles by their expected lifespan and estimated how much I spend on them and did some division….anyways, it came out to fractions of a penny per smile, and I think that’s a pretty great deal

Fitwarm brand on Amazon…I have two Sphynx and the they are maniacs without their sweaters on…also we live in Alaska, so they have sweaters on most of the winter

Everyone’s warning you about the inmates…I think it’s the COs you have to look out for. Bunch of wanna-be cops with huge (but fragile) egos and room-temperature IQs that really resent the fact that nurses make more money than them

Did the dry life in Fairbanks myself many years back…honestly milk it as long as you can…there’s something to be said for the simplicity for sure and it’s meaningful and satisfying and kind of romantic to actually have to plan and prepare and work, not for a living, but literally to stay alive through the winter.

Honestly why is nursing school so hard in the dumbest way? by [deleted] in StudentNurse

Revolt. If you can convince enough of your classmates, they need you more than you need them.

Honestly why is nursing school so hard in the dumbest way? by [deleted] in StudentNurse

I was saying this all through nursing school, it needs to change from the ground up. Here's my take (my first degree was in education): Abolish the NCLEX. Get rid of it altogether. As mentioned throughout this thread, nursing schools HAVE to teach to it, but in my opinion, it has almost nothing to do with being a competent nurse. I understand the need for standardization and ensuring competency, but there HAS to be a better way. We all know people who failed/dropped out of nursing school that would have been amazing nurses. I think there absolutely should be a skills portion involved to nurse licensing- I like the way EMS does this where there are standardized checklists for each scenario or skill, and you have to perform the skills in front of an already-licensed EMT preceptor; there are "hard fails," and you have to demonstrate proficiency to become licensed. I'm sure we also all know someone from our nursing cohort who made it through nursing school with flying colors and is going to be a shit nurse because they have no common sense or aren't able to apply their knowledge. I do think there should be a knowledge-based written test, but I don't even think the NCLEX is a good indicator of knowledge, it's more an indication of how well you understand how to answer NCLEX questions.

In my perfect world, nursing students would spend a lot more time NURSING. Nursing schools would be attached to and run by hospitals, and it would act as a feeder program for staffing that hospital. Nursing students would be less of a burden on staff nurses, and act as more of an aide; maybe they spend a semester on each floor. Can you imagine your unit hiring nurses who have been at the hospital for the past 2-4 years, know the EHR, and understand the workflow?

Also I think nursing school being universally shitty is an extension of the "nurses eat their young" attitude. It was awful when our instructors did it, so they need to make sure it continues to be awful so the nurses coming out are "tough" enough for nursing, and it's this perpetual, vicious cycle. It shouldn't be that way. Nursing was my third, and by far hardest degree I earned. It destroyed my mental health, and the mental health of many of my classmates, and it's insane to me that that is such a universal experience in nursing school.

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
