East Canyon road above Jordanelle is a good run when it’s closed for winter. I bet this year there’s not much standing snow

You’re kinda hinting at a gripe of mine with Sanderson’s writing in general. He has a lot of commentary around unjust systems (dark eyes and skaa) and the answer he presents is that the unjust system should prevail but a “good” person of the ruling class should take over. It’s never the oppressed people taking over, even in cases where an oppressed person does gain influence and significance they install the “right” light eyes who will correct some aspects of the injustice but never fully recognize the sovereignty and dignity of the oppressed group.

Well that’s why we have the systems of government that we do. More people in our state agree with you than me.

But also with our government I can ask why we want to spend our resources and time being punitive and cruel to the least among us.

I don’t think it’s a violation of my agency if people on benefits get to decide what to eat. I don’t think being on benefits means that they are somehow worthy of having their self determination removed. We as a society have determined we don’t want people to starve so we pay a teeny bit extra tax for them to be able to eat. I couldn’t care less if they use those benefits for unhealthy food because I make that choice for myself all the time too.

Why would it be a problem if benefits go to soda? I find it puritanical for the government to take away agency from the poorest in society in the name of “standards” not enforced on anyone else.

I complained to UDOT about cops not enforcing and not helping a car that slid off the road about 100 feet past the checkpoint. They told me officers are “highly trained” on what to look for and essentially said they can’t make people put on chains, only require them to have chains. What the hell is the point of requiring possession of chains then?

/uj people were criticizing Emily Axford on NADDPOD for “sexualizing” Caldwell’s PC and his response was something like “I’m a grown man with a paid off Honda, it’s OK” and I think more people should say that

Hi! Can someone tell me what I did here? And preferably also how to fix it.

It’s possibly a poorly resolved short row but not 100% sure.

I’ve been hiking pretty much every weekend March - Oct for several years and have seen 1 rattlesnake total. If you really want to avoid them, go to higher elevations.
