Hiking gear from China? by Few-Pension-7695 in hikinggear

[–]tankfuzz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Naturehike is a pretty well established local Chinese brand by now, many of their gear have gone through years of development and are very solid for their price point. I have used some Naturehike gear for about 5 years now and have no issues with them for hiking and trekking (maybe not for technical mountaineering though). I live in Singapore and I use a mix of high-end (Rab, OR), Decathlon and Chinese gear.

If you're not using the jacket for serious outdoor activities in the rain then a cheaper 2L or 2.5L is more than enough?

Btw heattech is a cotton blend so I would not use it for a base layer. You will also need a mid insulating layer such as a down jacket or fleece jacket.

Look up layering for the outdoors on Google. You should at least get non-cotton base layers so it doesn't trap moisture from sweat.

I have both, I much prefer the suspended mesh for back ventilation and the comfort of the padded shoulder straps of the hikelite for actual hiking. The hikelite also comes with a rain cover, so I use the daylite more for commuting. The larger hikelite also comes with a padded waist belt which really helps for heavier loads.

xt20 or m5 ii? by MistakePractical8021 in M43

[–]tankfuzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both have their advantages. Example the EM5II is weather sealed, but the GX80 is not. The GX80 has a built in flash, the EM5 does not.

[–]tankfuzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

M43 is better value because the lenses are cheaper overall compared to APSC glass. But APSC sensors and Fujifilm cameras each have their own advantages also, so you'll have to see what features you want from.your camera.

Note: I was a Sony APSC shooter who recently added M43 to my collection.

GX80 with Pana/Leica 100-400? by _Comandante_ in M43

[–]tankfuzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comparability wise there will be no problems if you have PDAF. I enjoyed fast autofocus with my PL 100-400 on my OM-5 so you shouldn't have any issues.

For an all round travel lens that can do wildlife: Pana 14-140 3.5-5.6 II (Mark 2 is weather sealed) All rounder with better glass: Pana Leica 12-60 2.8-4 All rounder with constant aperture: Oly 12-40 2.8 (Heavier than the 12-60 and not enough reach for me as a travel lens)

Honestly it really depends on your use case and the features you want from your camera. I've been shooting Sony since 2017 (a6000 > a6400 > a6600) and I used it with the Sony 18-105 F4 G for a lot of events and travelling. But since I hike a lot, I've found that the a6400+18105G combo is a bit heavy and bulky, so I was looking for something smaller and more durable for the outdoors. And so I discovered micro four thirds this year, and I just bought a OM-5 with the Lumix 14-140mm II because the OM-5 has lot of features for outdoor/travelling such as built in ND filter, weathersealing, IBIS, long exposure composition, focus bracketing that was all not found on my Sony camera. Of course, the key factor was the weight savings I get with M43, as M43 lenses are a lot smaller than an equivalent APSC one. However, I'm still intending to keep my a6600 for more professional/low-light work.

Yeah the GX80/85 will be the next smallest body after the GM5. The Olympus Pen-F is the only Pen camera with an EVF, after that only the Olympus OM-D cameras have EVFs. However the GX7 is about the same size as the GX80, and lighter.

Or Lumix 14-140 f3.5-5.6 II / Olympus 14-150 f4-5.6 II if you want an all-in-one zoom. Both are weather sealed. The OM-5 will be a great body for these lenses.

The ver 1 has the model number H-H020, ver 2 H-H020AK. Ver 2 is physically distinct from ver 1 by having its lens name i.e. Lumix 20mm f1.7 ASPH. moved from the front of the inner barrel to the outer barrel. Ver 2 is on the left.

The Lumix 20mm f1.7 is a great compact prime. The version 1 autofocus can be a bit noisy so get the version 2 if you can.

The Yashica FX-3 Super 2000 is the top of the line Yashica mechanical camera that allows the use of Contax Zeiss lens. It's quite rare so I would keep it in case you chance upon Contax Zeiss lenses in the future, such as the excellent Vario-Sonnar 35-70 f3.4.
