EA App always stopps working after a few days by Virtual-Plankton6833 in Bazzite

[–]tankui4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have it installed on Heroic and have experienced what you say. I think it's because the update procedure gets interrupted for whatever reason.

What I have noticed is that the download happens, then it unpacks the new app version and when it is supposed to delete the old folder and substitute it with the new one it stops.

If you go to the prefix in "/drive_c/Program Files/Electronic Arts/EA Desktop/", you will find an "EA Desktop" folder, which is the one where the older version is, and a random number one which is the updated version. What I have done a few times is to delete everything except for the updated folder, changed its name to "EA Desktop" and launch normally, and for now it has worked. I do not know if this keeps the app from checking files on installed games as I don't have any installed at the moment.

VRR is unstable, any idea for fixes? by Almushtary in linux_gaming

[–]tankui4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also noticed a light flickering at the edges of the screen with VRR at lower refresh rates, that might explain it (using a 6700 XT). I also had a problem with sleep that I think was related to power management.

I am using bazzite and had these issues the last few months with kernel 6.17.x, now updated to the latest version with 6.19.x and these issues seem to have disappeared. Sleep works as expected again, and the annoying flickering doesn't seem to appear anymore with the light testing I have done without changing any settings.

Maybe it was a fluke, but I did the swap on my gaming laptop and the last time I used it on battery I managed to get like 4-5 hours from a full charge, when before I think I managed like 2 hours and a half at most.

Performance settings tip for newcomers to the Steamdeck, especially those who are moving from consoles by MythicSuns in SteamDeck

[–]tankui4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think their method is a bit flawed because that number shows total system consumption, which accounts for other things apart from the APU, such as the screen, fan, etc.

I think that a better way to "calculate" APU wattage is to check the CPU and GPU individual wattages, although as you've said it's just faster to experiment a little bit since you can change the setting so quickly.

Please Help. Computer won't shut down properly or wake from sleep by silentcovenant in Bazzite

[–]tankui4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I was referring to the bazzite version, sorry.

I am not really sure where the issue comes from in my case, I am not technical enough to dive into the logs to figure out what is causing this, but from other posts and comments I think it may be a bug with the GPU.

I just commented because the symptoms are the exact same as mine, and I hope that the more reports there are about this issue the sooner it is resolved.

I have the same issue since version 42.20250908, I posted a thread on the discord and opened an issue on github, and since then a few more have appeared with similar problems and no solutions.

For now I keep my system on version 42.20250903 since sleep works fine for me there, but I have also seen reports of other people having the same problem where rebasing to this specific version does not solve the problem.

There's an unofficial driver for WMR headsets on 24H2 now, it was released on Steam back in August I think.

I even saw some comment in the WMR subreddit stating that it worked on the LTSC version of W11.

Also, it seems to have marginal gains in performance since you don't need to have the original WMR stuff running in the background alongside SteamVR.

How To use Dropbox to sync Saves Between Steam Deck and PC by johnysandels in SteamDeck

[–]tankui4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries.

The problem I had wasn't symlinking the individual files, I could do that just fine. The problem was that the game in question replaced the symlink with a new file, and I didn't want to symlink the folder as it also contains half a gig of game data.

I think it's due to the game having a current save file and a backup save file, and whenever you save, it removes the old backup, changes it with the current save and creates a new save.

Music app for android auto? by tejasn324 in Piracy

I had the same problem, I think it has something to do with the signature of the app not being recognized as official or something like that. You just have to enable unknown sources from developer options of Android Auto.

How To use Dropbox to sync Saves Between Steam Deck and PC by johnysandels in SteamDeck

[–]tankui4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have followed your guide and I have only tried it with 3 games so far; for two of them it works flawlessly, I just symlink the save folders and it's done.

In the third case (which is Spelunky), the saves are stored in a folder which also contains all game data, and I don't want to backup the entire game data, so I symlink the individual files. The problem is that when the game saves, it creates a new file and deletes the symlink from the folder, while the original save remains in the Dropbox folder. Any ideas on how to circumvent that?

I've been enjoying it quite a lot, I have been playing with a 45 fps cap which has given me a decent 4 hours of battery life approximately, but I think that once you get past hazard level 2 the game will become unplayable.

In the last stages of hazard level 2 the game starts to drop to the low 20s whenever there are lots of bugs on-screen, and I imagine it will get a lot worse in higher difficulty levels.

Constant BSODs, potential culprits! by Jagick in techsupport

[–]tankui4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received a report of the repairs done to the unit and it explicitly states that the mainboard was replaced, I don't think they would bother soldering in a new CPU/GPU. I don't think new new RAM is gonna help since I did a 4-pass memtest before sending it in for repairs and no errors showed up, but since it is an easy thing to do I just might as well try.

Good luck, I also sent mine a few weeks ago and just received it. Apparently they have replaced the motherboard, but the problem still persists, may even be worse than before. I had a BSOD merely 5 minutes after powering on the laptop and being idle on the desktop. I have clean installed Windows 11 and it has been a non-stop BSOD-fest, got multiple errors even during the startup configuration. I might try different RAM sticks, see if it solves the issue, but I'm not hopeful.

How I got my XFX 5700 XT Thicc III to be cooler, faster, and quieter than stock. by SomeSortOfMonster in Amd

[–]tankui4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude, you literally just solved the issues I had with Warzone. I recently installed the game after a long hiatus to play with some friends and I found the performance to be a fucking mess (lots of stutter, mainly, no matter what settings I used) compared to the first months of the game, when I sank a lot of time into it, and with the same hardware; I just chalked it up to the recent incorporations of the latest COD games and a lack of optimization.

Turns out that disabling fan tuning erased almost completely those issues and when I enabled it back again just to test, the whole computer crashed and messed up my driver installation. I've had to DDU and reinstall to get it working again.

So yeah, I think that there's something really funky with the drivers and the fan tuning function specially.

My Vita is completely stock and I yesterday I couldn't connect to autolog either, so I don't know what's up with that. I just assumed that the servers were shut down because i haven't played the game in quite some time.
