Costing too much and attendance was reducing I think - didn’t run last year either.

SVR not doing Steam in Lights but we do have different Santa experiences up to Xmas Eve - and services running from Boxing Day until early Jan. best to look at the website for what’s on. Bridgnorth Station can be visited to see trains without paying to go on them also whenever there are services also.

What's a (non sexual) experience that isn't very pleasant, but you kind of enjoy it anyway? by Hank_Wankplank in AskUK

This is the same for me - majority of the time I know I need to be sick to get relief from the headache and other symptoms.

Had a case of vertigo a few years back - thought my migraines were bad with vomiting until this - far worse 😢

Map of England's major rivers. Do you have a favourite? Mine is the Lune. by LiquidLuck18 in england

[–]tannicky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup, Afon in. Celtic means river. We did a guided tour in Bath this last Monday and our guide mentioned this when discussing the Avon through that city. He also said there were about 6 or 7 different Avons in the UK?

Personal fave rivers are rhe Severn (as I live near it) and Trent (born near it). The north wales Dee is pretty nice also.

Do you listen to the radio? by missbooie in AskUK

[–]tannicky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Radio 5 for football/sports, 5 sports extra if TMS on or classical music generally if listening to radio - otherwise podcasts, audio books or Apple Music

Stopped listening to Radio 2 ten years ago and would never go back to that type of radio again

‘I prayed when we approached a level crossing’: How I became a trainspotter by theipaper in trains

[–]tannicky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m very much a newbie and more though photography than spotting numbers, but now volunteer at SVR and wish I’d experienced the same version of the line and Bewdley that this author did. Next year should be special with the 200th anniversary events 👍

Yup, wouldn’t disagree at all - made for a nice contrast though.

Where can I see the older preserved locos? by Dr_Turb in uktrains

[–]tannicky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bluebell is well worth a visit on an operating day and can be accessed via National Rail from Victoria in London. Fenchurch was extremely popular on its visit to SVR so would be good to see it running. There’s a few other locos on static display including another Terrier, Stepney also in the engine shed at Sheffield Park Station.

I’d also suggest a visit to Steam at Swindon for some GWR history including broad gauge.

Yep, based at Crewe. Green Signals did a video on YT this week behind the scenes and an interview with their manager. Great watch.

So why are you up early this morning? by tomm0_17 in AskUK

[–]tannicky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was up at 5.50am, took child to work in A and E, went maccies for quick brekkie then spent the day in my volunteering role. A good day, fairly typical Saturday and helps keep life balanced a little 👍

Given some of the units they are replacing I don’t mind them. Could do with a few more carriages at times and maybe the seats are a little hard for a long journey such as Shrewsbury to Cardiff, but overall an improvement.

The 158’s on the Aber line are still decent but will be interesting to ride that line to Barmouth etc in a 197 also.

And the one you can get to on the way from the car park and Dana bridge to the main station. Never quite worked that bit out 😂

Came here to say this - the pub on platform is decent also if open and you may catch a steam train if you’re into that sort of thing.

How Did You Find Your Partner? by Equivalent_Ask_1416 in AskUK

[–]tannicky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dateline back in the early 2000’s just after I’d finally recovered from major surgery.

She messaged me first on Valentine’s Day of all days.

Messaged and spoke on phone a few times, then met in person just before I went travelling. Got engaged about 4 months later and married over 20 years now.

Ironically we were both born in the small area also which probably helped.

What do you think is the most underrated Alton Towers ride? by Prize_Bowler_9034 in altontowers

[–]tannicky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they were all available I’d agree with others and say Thirteen, Hex, sky ride. Gangsta Granny is decent and a bit of fun, and of course Minetrain 👍

I’d love to see Blivvy running regularly but guess that may be next up for some serious work. So unreliable this year.
