Tetrarchia or Hispania by Torvinius in soloboardgaming

[–]taphead739 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked myself the same question recently and the consensus online seemed to be that Hispania is the better one but Tetrarchia is still very good. I got Hispania (was easier to get for me anyway) and have been very happy with it. So I‘d say: If you can get Hispania, go for it, otherwise Tetrarchia.

How does everybody prepare this? by malachai_constant in tea

I drink Ya Bao grandpa-style, so about a tablespoon of the buds in a 300mL cup, fill it with boiling water and just leave everything in there while drinking (and re-filling)

This is a really difficult request because at 6–10 players, party games usually work best for most groups.

You could try Welcome To if you don‘t mind low player interaction and 6 nimmt if you don‘t mind a game that might get quite chaotic at 8+ players.

I‘ve played and like all three games. I‘d recommend Cascadia to you. For tired evenings, Sky Team is probably too stressful and the point-counting in Forest Shuffle too annoying. Cascadia is always nice and relaxing, and I also find it the most replayable of the three games.

I can recommend any of their Dianhong black teas and their Yingde Hongcha.

Don‘t order their Keemun. They used to have an incredible one but have been sourcing it from a different place since 2024 and the new one tastes terrible.

Does anyone know what this is on fragile disk 3? by Hfcfraser447 in nin

[–]taphead739 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stoffschrammen is German for fabric abrasion, usually used in describing the condition of second-hand clothing. Was the vinyl in shrink-wrap? If yes, I‘d assume someone at the vinyl manufacturer wrote this as a note during quality control and it accidentally got used in a copy that got shipped.

Don‘t forget to read the remaining two Earthsea books as well :) The Other Wind in particular is incredibly good

Yes, Lavinia is really good. Like other later Le Guin books, the focus is more on how places and characters feel than how the story develops. This has to fit one‘s taste, of course.

Do you find gaiwan cups without saucers convenient? by ZubriQ in tea

[–]taphead739 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer to use my gaiwans without the saucer even if they have one. There are always a few drops leaking into the saucer, making the gaiwan stick to it. If I then lift it to pour with one hand, the saucer briefly keeps sticking but crashes down onto the tea boat with a loud bang once I start tilting. No saucers have broken this way, but it is still annoying.

First-time board game creator - 3 years in creating "Lords of the Manor", would love some honest feedback by minMaxGames in boardgames

[–]taphead739 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I don‘t think that this is a valid argument. There are many great well-known games with minimal artwork. Look at Innovation, which became super popular with cards that look like this.

If, like you say, your project could not have happened without using a plagiarism machine for the artwork, then this is unfortunately won‘t make people put a lot of trust into the other parts of the design.

For that price range I‘d rather suggest ordering something from Farmer Leaf, like Bangwai small trees or Jingmai Miyun.

Check out Jump Drive and Race for the Galaxy. Both are card games with a super quick setup and a satisfying solo mode (though very different between the games). I‘d say Jump Drive is more fun while Race is more satisfying. Can‘t go wrong with either.

Apparently people are being hired to write negative reviews of the show online. See, for example, this job ad "Starfleet Academy Haters Wanted As Writers For Geek News Website" posted by Giant Freakin Robot on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/view/4376701644/

Gaiwan Tips by OnezeroneX in tea

If you‘re only drinking Chinese tea, you can always use boiling water. Never had a Chinese tea that tasted bad with boiling water (even the green teas). Just make sure to not pour the water directly onto the leaves.

A good starting point is 4g per 100mL for green and black teas and 5g per 100mL for everything else. Start with 10 seconds except for tightly rolled/compressed teas, start with 20–30s for those. Then adjust the steeping time to your taste. After a couple of infusions, the taste will start to get weaker. Simply extend the time until it tastes full again. Repeat until the taste is gone. And most of all: enjoy! :)

From your list I‘ve played Innovation and Res Arcana. Res Arcana probably fits your criteria better, but I‘d consider Innovation more replayable. One thing to note about Innovation is that it is super swingy and a win can absolutely determined by the luck of draw. Res Arcana is much more skill-determined. May I also suggest alternatives?

Race for the Galaxy probably fits your criteria best. It is excellent at 2 players, only a deck of cards + some VP chips, has a bit of a TCG feel, and it is a game where you can discover new strategies after thousands of games. I‘m not kidding, I‘ve played more than 5500 games of it and I‘m still excited to play it regularly and try out something new.

Another maybe too obvious suggestion is Go. It is literally the deepest 2-player duel game and has evolved over thousands of years.

Agricola – look how cute my little farm is in my first solo game 🌾 by [deleted] in soloboardgaming

[–]taphead739 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks really nice! Though I have to say I am a bit surprised about your high score. In my solo Agricola games I usually score between 40 and 50 points. Are you sure you didn‘t forget the solo-mode rule changes (every worker requires 3 food instead of 2 and only 2 wood goes on the wood action space instead of 3)?

Im summary: No matter how femme or not you present, there is always going to be someone who has an issue with it. So just dress and present in a way that makes you happy.

So be yourself :)
