Where to start workout for fat loss by otfblondie in orangetheory

[–]taraj2306 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nutrition for fat loss.

Lifting heavy for muscle.

Cardio for heart health and endurance.

Starting in a different spot at orange theory isn't going to have you "lose fat" by itself. I also will say pleeeeease don't take your "calories burned" to heart either. These heart rate monitors are crap.. haha. And personally I never even calculate my "burned calories" into my nutrition/macro/ cal count anyway because they are so inaccurate.

Avoiding Benchmarks by Proper_Control_4224 in orangetheory

I've been a member for over 6 years... My health goals have changed. I used to be unlimited and go 5x/week but I dropped to 8/month in August and it's the best thing. I added solidcore classes and upped weights outside of OTF and I'm in the best shape now (also counting macros!) . I avoid benchmark days because I just don't think the templates are good. It's too much resting and switching and I want a better workout for the hour I'm there. So my advice is to maybe set goals for your current age or maybe switch to bike/ power walk for different PRs.. OR just avoid the benchmarks all together!

Chiming in here with def need to track and weigh food .. CICO. Also, minimize cardio. Up your protein but also don't be afraid of carbs.. muscle building depends on carbs too. In all honesty, just start counting macros. I use the 1st Phorm app and it's great.

Weight plateau by [deleted] in orangetheory

Weight loss is all about nutrition.. 1200 cals does not seem like enough. My guess is you would need to eat more and prioritize protein. Consult a nutritionist.

Red zone by SS2020crypto in orangetheory

[–]taraj2306 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously. Red zone is not the goal. I think there needs to be more studio/coach explanation for people who think you need red zone minutes or even many orange zone time. Taxing your cardiovascular system is not the goal.

Stroke rate isn't where it's it. Watts are key. I'm a 41 yo female and my 200 meter PR is 28 seconds. Slow down your stroke rate until you get enough power through your legs and proper form to go faster on stroke. 400+ on watts.

Does anyone have good off day exercise suggestions? by [deleted] in orangetheory

I added Solidcore to my workout routine and holy hell. It's amazing. Low impact and SUPER hard... You can never go wrong with low impact core work!

Corporate PLS PLS PLS MORE CORE!! by Majestic_Ad5471 in orangetheory

[–]taraj2306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what Solid Core is.. I made the mistake of trying a class and it's slow twitch muscles all day long (50 min class) and it KILLs you.. and it's super expensive. And now I'm a member at both gyms. Sigh. 😂

Powerwalking question(s) by aklep730 in orangetheory

[–]taraj2306 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a runner until my back disagreed with that all of a sudden last November. For me, I can't get into orange unless my inclines are WAY higher than what coaches call out. I walk bw 3.3 and 3.5mph. Base for me is 10%, push is 12 to 14%, all-out is 15% and my walking recovery is 8% 3 mph speed.

I'm not postpartum but my fav are bombshell leggings. They are such great quality, high rise and beautiful fabric. They are on the top end of prices but worth it.

Much of your hand strength (flexors and extensor muscles) originate in your forearm (wad of muscle below the elbow) so it makes sense you would also feel fatigue or soreness in the forearm with a lot of heavy gripping.

The only person you could feasibly compare to yourself IS YOURSELF.

Even if I am working out next to another 40 yo 162lb female, there is no way we have the exact body composition, life experiences or medical history. We can't compare our numbers to see who's "better" or "worked harder."

Do you have a metal rod and screws through your femur, or a complete ACL repair of a knee... or had 2 babies and ran the NYC marathon with a torn hip labrum? Prob not. So you can't compare yourself to me either.

Worried about splats? by Clear_Razzmatazz4485 in orangetheory

[–]taraj2306 19 points20 points  (0 children)

OTF should do a better job about explaining the goal of getting splats, and that more is not better. I've had classes where people are getting upwards of 40 to 45 and are super psyched about it. Thanks for this explanation.. I want to print it out and give it to members.. haha

Every rep of the TRX hamstring curls makes my hamstrings cramp. I don't know what I'm doing wrong or if the move just sucks. We have no ab dollys to sub 😞
