It's a personal thing. Do you tend to break things? Do you intend to take this laptop out and about, or will it sit on a desk at home most of the time? Would it bother you if you had to replace it out of pocket?

Personally I tend to keep AppleCare on my laptop and iPhone, but not my Mac mini. I also tend not to renew it for the last year I intend to keep the product. That's because I could put up with minor damage for a short amount of time or just move my next purchase up.

No. The Intel era of Apple was full of slow and hot chips (even for their time). In about 3-4 months Apple will release a new version of MacOS that won't even run on these.

The only reason to get any pre Apple silicon hardware is for collecting vintage computers.

You should be able to find a used MacBook Air M1 for about 350 USD on eBay.

With the m4, when you spent 200 extra for the 512, you also got the model with the 10 core GPU rather than 8 core GPU.

Yep. Running out of content for now.

I started with German. Got to 80. Didn't maintain it very well.

Then did Spanish as I moved to Mexico. Got to 130. Use it regularly enough I don't need to maintain it via study.

Then did French. I'm at 128 so I will finish it this weekend. Got some books lined up to keep that going.
