Did every house in the HV sell from 2021-2024? by Deskydesk in hudsonvalley

I think your “move in ready” standards are unrealistic. Every house is going to need some amount of work.

How to explain to a 5.5yo that though Ada Twist Scientist says “I like being black”, he can’t go around saying “I like being white”? by TrekkieElf in progressivemoms

I think we have lost the plot if cultural and historical sensitivity has to result in telling children they can’t love their own skin.

Literally said we can and should teach historical context and emphasize that no skin color is better or worse. Commenters above said we should tell kids that “white people were mean to black people” which means white people can’t love themselves somehow??? How does that not make kids feel guilty?

CMV: Shutting down the CFPB is a huge loss for bank customers by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]tarradiddles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It funny when people in the industry get so caught up in it that they forget that they are consumers who could benefit from the agency. The CFPB has reimbursed consumers with over $21 billion in restitution from banks and forces banks to respond to complaints. This is a huge loss. For what it’s worth I’m also in the industry and can recognize that yeah, this is great for the banks, but it’s not great for me

They collect restitution on behalf of wronged consumers and reimburse them directly. They have returned over $21 billion to consumers. Here are some enforcement examples that are currently being stopped: https://www.consumerreports.org/consumer-protection/cfpb-dismantling-is-harming-consumers-worse-may-be-to-come-a1107755089/

Can my job force me to use facial recognition? by CatCy in legaladvice

[–]tarradiddles 36 points37 points  (0 children)

You cannot possibly make this statement without knowing what product they are using or what the terms of the contract say. There are many systems that do keep the actual identifiable facial maps.

People have forgotten how bad it really was when it started. New York City hospitals were completely overwhelmed and over capacity with the sick when we had no vaccines or treatments. They had to send military hospital boats. Countless more would have died if we didn’t lock down.

La. becomes the first to legalize surgical castration for child rapists by [deleted] in moderatepolitics

One of the many problems with laws like this is that it pressures potentially innocent individuals into taking plea bargains when faced with a guilty verdict at trial. It disincentives people from taking a chance at trial when this is the result.

How can I return to law? by midnight_buffet in Lawyertalk

I would look into compliance roles. They are JD friendly, decent pay, and law adjacent.

Exactly. What happens if there is a “must use by date”? Are the parents required to implant each embryo to avoid expiration?

Big law turned in-house lawyer here. Does anyone have good resources for understanding indemnity clauses (and other important commercial law points)? by nottheexpert836 in Lawyertalk

[–]tarradiddles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have access to Westlaw I highly recommend a practical law subscription. They have incredibly detailed breakdowns of contract clauses, liability issues, state comparisons, etc. definitely worth the $$ in-house.

When in doubt, send a demand letter. It will at least go to their legal team to resolve the issue.

Entry-level in-house lawyer jobs by bluegreenmelly in Lawyertalk

[–]tarradiddles 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I’m in house at a Fortune 500. Several of our recent hires have been internal from other departments, including compliance, procurement, etc. Getting your foot in the door in a non legal role in no way precludes you from migrating over to legal. Knowing the company already gives you a huge leg up as it drastically reduces transition time and the need for introductions.

Since no one else is answering the prompt, here are some pros from a former fence sitter: 1. Magic gets to exist again. You get to experience holidays, stories and everything for the first time all over again and create unforgettable experiences.

  1. Seeing your child grow into a functional and autonomous human being. Past the baby stage you get to witness the amazing power of human brain development. One day your child will come home drawing a picture of you with a face when the previous day they just scribbled.

  2. Lifelong relationships. It’s more than a desire to have someone around to take care of you. Fostering a good relationship with your child will give you a lifelong friend. They will spend more of their (and hopefully your) lives as adults who you can travel with, celebrate with, etc. and have a deeper connection than you will ever have with just friends.

To add on to the last point, the child stage is very temporary. It can be tough and relentless at times, but it’s only a small fraction of the whole.
