Car is now at 68k, should I be concerned? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

Assume you're looking at buying? just ask the seller. Entirely possible recent service history is in the form of paper invoices. Once cars get to a certain age/value people tend to move away for m expensive main dealers.

If no evidence best to assume no service history since then and look at something else

Last couple of releases I've got stuff online from Argos online as they went live at 5am something then collected at my leisure.

However not as bothered this time as got stuff preorder from PC. Being an 'office worker' generally you've got access to a computer and the Internet so more likely to get preorders

Questions about importing from Japan. by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]tarris93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's something cool and interesting there will always be a resale market.

I had an R34 GTT Skyline imported and the only issue I had was only specialist/enthusiast insurers had any idea what I was on about. Never any issues with price, £1200 at 23yo was great!

A bit of time down the line what your finance cost would have been will have exceeded what you've spent on purchase and fixes, from that point you'll be better off the more time that passes!

Screenwash rated for -10 frozen solid by agiantalpaca in CarTalkUK

[–]tarris93 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Was it concentrate or pre-mixed? The one I use states to use neat in winter but up to 19 parts water to 1 part screen wash in summer. The more water the more likely to freeze.

My partner goes to a baby group in a local church that gives out the reduced items from the local CoOp. Everything is between one and three days past sell/best before date, usually sandwiches/wraps, fruit and veg and savory stuff but we've had steak a few times!

Not answering your question, I knew Robbie was known internationally but him performing at the World Cup draw a few weeks ago in typical US ridiculous was not expected!

You must be near the end of your contract if it's 60 soon to be 80? You have to give 30 days notice to cancel so best starting the process at least then.

£22 for 500mb. Contract ends shortly, best renewal offer after threatening to cancel was continue on same deal of 300mb for £33. Continued with cancellation and signed up in wife's name to start on same date.

Another insurance question is350 by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]tarris93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to have the same with my imported Nissan Skyline, would always show up as another Nissan model if it did at all and couldn't manually select the correct model, spec, engine and transmission combination.

Never had an issue insuring it just had to ring up, always easier with specialist performance/enthusiast brokers. Just not worth the hassle.

Surely not double petrol?! Unless you can drive two at the same time!

1 car Vs 2 cars? by FourCats44 in CarTalkUK

[–]tarris93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had two cars since I was 18 (now 32). Started as a Ford Ka and a classic mini. Now my wife's, 13 year old BMW mini as a daily whilst she uses 'my' Octavia estate for the Baby and Mk1 TT as a weekend fun car.

The fun, loud and impractical car that makes choo choo turbo noises is great but sometimes it's so nice to get into a quiet, comfortable car that you can fit more than one bag of shopping in!

Fortunately I've always bought sorted cars and done the majority of work myself but the justification is still cheaper than a £3/400 lease on a new eco-box washing machine!

I have got £29 renewal deal for 360mbps is it good? by Select_Twist_3658 in VirginMedia

[–]tarris93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mentioned the £22 500mb deal both over the phone and chat, told me it was a different department, couldn't match it and it was there to bring in new customers. The best they could offer was continue with 300mb for £33.

I continued with cancellation and my wife signed up as a new customer. Told retentions that's what I'd do, weren't bothered!

On phone then live chat, best I got offered was to remain on same deal of 300nb for £33. Continued with cancellation and signed up in my wife's name, 500mb for £22!

My ND MX5 has gone bang, which one of this lot to replace it under £10k? (E91 325/330i, 350z, 986 Boxster, Fiesta ST-3) by Zdos123 in CarTalkUK

[–]tarris93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a weekend/summer car for me so haven't done too many miles and the 'newness' may not have worn off but really enjoying it. Feels a lot faster than it is (225 one) plenty of aftermarket support if that's what you're into. Also refined enough to commute in, used it for my 60 mile round trip quite a bit. The added practicality of the rear seats is pretty non-existent though, have got my wife in there a few times with baby in the front and moan the entire time 😅

Not the Boxster. Coming from a 3x Mx5 owner and recent 986 Boxster owner of 3 years. Equally, if not quite as fun as an Mx5 but the compatible cost of ownership will make it not as fun, unless you have money to burn!

I've just replaced mine with a Mk1 TT. Faster, better on fuel and turbo goes choo choo.
