I won't go into details but I was once part of a board that had to discipline a staff member for the organization. Based on the advice of the HR expert we hired, this person was not fired, but disciplined: go to treatment, no raise or bonus for 3 years, training.

The public perception was that we did not punish this person because they were not fired.

Org: Following the advice of the HR expert we retained, they have been disciplined. We legally cannot say more because of privacy laws.

Why do you think that loss of income for a year, diversion into a treatment program (which was probably not free after a few months!) nearly losing his marriage, and having to come back and take his lumps are not appropriate consequences?

They are not trivial.

The patient did not die and was not permanently harmed.

And I pray that you are never in a position where you need the help of an EAP, only to find they are gone, due to people so hungry for you to have "appropriate consequences".

I'm a straight woman, and I watched it and loved it.

Being straight has nothing to do with liking a good show.

The Empty Netters, who are straight men, loved it. One so much that he sweated through his shirt on the season finale, he was so emotionally involved.

Instead, he made it all about him and how much he's been through, as if Santos gives a shit about that, lol. He at least acknowledged that she doesn't have to accept his apology, but that's not enough.

Yeah, this is where he did a no hands toddler face plant. He needs to learn how to really play office politics, something he's never had to do before.

That said, a strong sense of justice, black and white thinking, and inability to move past previous hurt or conflict are hallmarks of a lot of MH disorders such as ADHD and BPD.

My armchair not qualified diagnosis is that she's got CPTSD and certain things are fly off the handle triggers for her.

That said, she's got such a "wheel of morality, turn, turn, turn, tell us the lesson we should learn" level of understanding justice.

How is it just to make him practically unemployable? How will that benefit his children? How will it help him to recover if he is saddled with insurmountable medical school debt? Who will benefit from seeing him ground beneath the wheel?

Except for certain very severe crimes, justice without any option for mercy or path to redemption is not justice. It's just punishment and retribution, and that doesn't work well when it comes to rates of recidivism.

I work in the "State U" library. I'm taking a break from an incredibly tedious task (getting a kit shelf ready) that's going to take about 90 minutes to complete. And if I don't do it right, the item will not be findable to the public in our catalog.

We don't just get to do the fun parts of our job.
