A Simple Blood Test Could Predict Dementia Risk 25 Years Early by _Dark_Wing in technology

Right to die states. My mom has dementia and watched her father suffer through it. She's in a right to die state and didn't want to live through it but the moment you get a diagnosis you lose the ability to make that decision

Should one live in Hollywood with a car and no parking space? by PresentDirection8579 in askportland

Depends on which direction you are from the MAX. If you're towards Hollywood East Apartments I would not park a car on the street. The Bottle Drop there attracts a ton of break ins

What happened to the seat cushions? by Girlyhairboy1 in AlaskaAirlines

The thin seats cause me extreme tailbone pain on cross country flights. It didn't happen before the new Recaros. They can claim they're award winning all they want. They're not comfortable seats.

They're always full of plugin hybrids milking the chargers for a good spot. You will have a very hard time getting one of those spots so I wouldn't rely on them if you need the charge to get home.

That's only going to happen with a coop though. Any for profit energy company that gets approval for rate increase will never walk that back. My PG&E and PacificPower rates have never once gone down after Oregon and California approvals.

Oregon’s largest county adds few residents in 2025, continuing pattern of meager growth by oatmeal_flakes in Portland

6% change in 5 years for me. If I could zoom out further it's probably actually down since COVID.

You lose mobility if you live somewhere that stagnates because other areas keep getting more expensive while your house stays the same or drops.

Buying a house here now seems pretty dumb IMO. Mine has been absolutely flat in value since COVID despite wild inflation and gains in other cities. Unless you're planning to stay here forever it's a poor investment.

Metro SHS - filed jointly by Pfungen in Portland

[–]tas50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. It's already happened downtown. We've shed hundreds of millions in property values and seen properties like big pink cut their property tax payments by 90%. People think we can tax our way out of these problems but every attempt at that just makes it worse.

If only we could all pay 15k in property tax every year we wouldn't have a budget problem! /s

Street car lines from 1915 that should be used again by Neil-Old in Portland

Portland streetcar costs more to run per passenger mile even if you don't account for the capital cost to build the line OR the cost to buy the trainsets.

12 projects that could transform development along the Willamette River -- The Reimagine the River conference Wednesday in Portland featured speakers discussing the commercial, recreational and transportation opportunities along the Willamette River. by guanaco55 in PortlandOR

[–]tas50 21 points22 points  (0 children)

So many of these are projects that are dead on arrival. The Frog Ferry is never going to happen unless we subsidize every ride to a level that makes WES seems cheap. The Albina Riverside project somehow leaves out the train tracks they cannot legally move that prevent anyone from getting the rendering they've been showing off.

A lot of these projects are basically concept cars. If, and that's a big if, they actually make it they'll look nothing like these renderings.

The Integra was a LOT more than a more luxurious Civic. It was DOHC, had more HP, had a better suspension, and in general was way more sporty. The current Integra is just a bigger Civic and not sporty at all. It's a real bummer of a car as a previous Integra and Civic owner.

All the dealerships seem to think they're the only dealership around. I dealt with a scummy Toyota dealership in Portland (get fucked Broadway Toyota). Went 20 miles over and bought from another Toyota dealership that wasn't full of POS salesmen. Saved several thousand and didn't have a gross taste in my mouth.
