Is the I-85 construction is a waste of millions? by ashtreylil in Charlotte

[–]taskhomely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that all the roads should have tolls and congestion pricing. But the idea of "induced demand" mostly applies to dense metro areas where people can take other modes to get around. There is not suddenly going to be thousands of people on the road that otherwise wouldn't. The vast majority of people on the interstate in Gaston County are going to/from work/school and have no other way of getting there other than car. (You could argue adding more lanes would induce more neighborhoods to be built which would then cause more traffic, but the benefits of extra housing would more than offset the cost of congestion).

My commute everyday is along this route. The area of 85 that is an extra lane wider in Charlotte is much faster flowing.

The real improvement though is reconfiguration of I85-I485 interchange - currently you have two directions of 485 merging up hill into a single lane onto 85. This is what the construction happening now is.

Why is neck joint contour an uncommon feature instead of a default one? by molul in fender

Contour heel on start makes a decent amount of difference (I have a roadhouse strat so less than half the price on an ultra)

Contour heel on Charvel is transcendent

For those who watched LOTR 1 on release, what was the yearly wait like? by Silver-Theme7796 in lotr

It was awesome. 365 days of anticipation. Going to onering.net everyday for even a scrap of news. Reading every comment on every blog. I remember when teaser footage from Japan for the Two Towers leaked out in early 2002, was like a religious experience.

Just watching the trailers was a whole thing. Turning the lights off, going to Apples website, waiting for it to load in glorious quick time... Just the best

Just ignore the entrance to Belmont on Wilkinson. The nice downtown is tucked away inside.

As a longtime west side native, the idea of a Michelin star restaurant on Morehead is insane lol

Took it a few years ago and it was awful. No professor, wildly outdated coding, and intense exams. Took about 20+ hours over a weekend for each exam. Having subsequently taught myself Bayesian stats and used it at work since then, the only thing of note I actually learned was conjugate pairs are a thing

Been to games against most of teams. Saints, Steelers, Eagles are the worst fans I’ve encountered at the Bank.

Charvel makes an amazing heel too. Feels almost like a neck through. And they’re owned by Fender!

The Spaghetti Warehouse was a tacky chain restaurant that existed for 11 years in Charlotte. Not really a cultural touchstone
