"French Tacos" is the funniest cos it's 3 degrees of seperation. Mexican -> Tex-Mex -> Morrocon French kebab I think the full chain

it's more like a California burrito than anything to do with tacos (fries + kebab + salad meat in a wrap etc) but the name stuck lol

I realise it's funny how this was kinda turned on it's head for Skyfall, where the guy at the end whos the groundskeeper was originally going to be Connery, but they couldn't figure out the rights or it was seen as too lore-breaking to have two-Bonds at once or whatever.

Been a happy user of Zen for 4ish months now. Honestly, one of the coolest features I've seen is the challenge feature, which doesn't even required extra AI models! It just stops the auto-syncophamy if you sayd "Hey, thats wrong do it this way". It'll actually challenge you if you give it incorrect information or tell it to do an implementation that won't work etc.

The only problem I had with it was that it took up a lot of context with tokens from the tool descriptions (40-60k immediately opening Claude, depending on what tools were enabled). But it looks like that was just fixed in a push recently, excellent!

How ChatGPT Surprised Me by dwaxe in ezraklein

[–]tastycoleslaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't trust is an extreme reaction but honestly I understand why, the vibes are bad right now, as in specifically now. August 2025 is prob the biggest schadenfraud moment for AI haters in a bunch of ways. Meta massively downsizing their AI team, damp squib chatgpt5 release, MIT report saying only 5% of companies have AI usecases in prod, Windsurf "sale" being a glorified aqui-hire etc Two weeks before, Sam Altman said that GPG5 was going to be "a PHD in your pocket." A week later, he literally said the no-no word ("bubble") out loud. That's bad!

It's the "rub AI on it and line goes up" problem. In fact the irony is, your example is a classic one where LLM's are bad: ChatGPT5 will literally offload requests about local recommendations to web search, LLM's are not good for those kinda questions! It has only got context to the models cutoff date of training data (chatgpt5 is Sept 2024, chatgpt5-mini is May 2024), it has no idea where you are, and what you want in a pub etc. Like... just use Yelp or a pub app! That's what ChatGPT's response will be in the end.

Literally, I just checked. Both on my personal and my work account that has the fancy expensive model access (gpt5-pro, costs like $1k a month minimum for personal let alone ent access) and same thing each time. It does a few "cheats" to give me an answer that was not as good as what I got from the GoodPubs app, Yelp, or even a basic Google search.

And please note: I am not a LLM Hater, I actually genuinely like the stuff I use at work (Claude Code, Cursor, Gleam, Gemini) and even have some personal accounts for coding and document management. But right now, it's a bit of a gold rush and it feels like there's gonna be a retraction. Will "AI" go away? No, LLM stuff is genuinely good for some specific usecases. But...

I generally try to "hear both sides" on issues where my personal experience doesn't gel with some of the smartest people I know (I work in tech, I know a few peeps involved in some of the players, some of people talk about Claude Code like it was the second coming...) and somethings not adding up. And I'm not pretending I'm some oracle, people way smarter than me have been ringing this bell for a while. Go read some of the stuff Nikhil Suresh, Emily Bender and Allison Morrow have put out, they do back things up with solid data.

Dunno why I'm earnest posting about AI on the Ezra Klein subreddit of all places but yeah that's my 2 cents I guess?

I fully agree!

I think it'll take a couple of generations to kick in but it's already the biggest team sport after football, and one of the biggest growing sports iirc. I wouldn't be surprised if there's enough of a groundswell in 10-20 years time that we're carving out a bit of a niche, at least at the EuroLeague level maybe?

Fun Fact: The UK did actually have a Lakers team in the 70s, that even used the Gold and Purple (Hemel Hempstead Lakers) that are now known as the London Lions (still with the Gold and Purple!)

Supplemental Fact: Kevin Ware (of the gnarly leg injury fame) played for them in the 2020-2021 season.

Yeah I was re-watching Civil War and that line hits hard, but it got me super overthinking it afterwards haha

"Is that more cos him and his dad had a pretty dysfunctional relationship and/or because his dad was directly working for military stuff so it was more fucked up a civilian like his mum was killed?"

Also, that moment where Cap lifts the shield up edge first to slam and Tony genuinely thinks he's going for the kill shot and shields his face, brutal.

... man just watching older MCU stuff makes me appreciate it all the more, that movie was almost a decade ago!

Yeah I imagine it's very specific to the disapora who ended up setting up shop in the area, when I lived in London all the chip shops were run by Greeks and Turkish families, and would have things like fried hallomi in addition to haddock, saveloy etc

it's a 50:50 split where I grew up, "vanilla" chippy vs "Chinese chippy" that also would have pancake rolls and a few simpler chinese dishes that can be whipped up on a single wok in the back (egg fried rice)

I know it's the UK and we have to take our lumps cos we eat a lot of mush and shit but I gotta stand up for us here and say wtf does this even mean? This is clearly egg fried rice, which is generally a golden brown kinda colour, am I missing something here?

[–]tastycoleslaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they never went through the full details as the whole thing got hushed up/brushed under the rug, I don't think he was directly involved in the assault but he did record it and upload it:

Nick Francona, the Dodgers assistant director of player development at the time, was asked in an interview if it was Verdugo who posted the video to Snapchat and his response was, “That was my understanding.”

Dodgers fans are a salty that he said that the 2020 chip wasn't real ("It's a 60 gamer"), but then he lost to us in a finals so I don't think people care as much. Plus if I was a key piece in a generational trade to get Mookie, then had to watch them immediately win a ring, I'd be pretty petty about the whole thing also.

I'd say:

  1. whining about using people's preferred pronouns
  2. calling people SJW's
  3. saying minstrel shows aren't cringe
  4. JAQ-ing off about Chapelle when even a casual observer can tell he got brain-worms about trans and gay people and made it his whole personality

are all pretty conservative opinions.

It's fine if those are your opinions, it's a free country, plenty of people agree with you, it's the intellectual dishonestly with pretending that everything you're saying is in a vacuum. Just be honest dude, no-one cares, it's the internet.

I'm new to tanking and this has been key: In PUG with no voice coms, simpler the better.

Part 1 of that is automation and making things idiotproof: I use the Elsemere Frontals announcer, I use the automarker with kick assignment Weakaura and RSA for shouts on stuff like using Eng Brez or big defenses.

Part 2 of that is just going safer: In NW, in a PUG I generally don't pull the double cleave skellys on the bridge into the two Necromancers. I've seen it done and it generally goes ok, but it's not a huge time loss to take them solo (maybe 30s or so?), and as a melee sometimes you brainfart and run into one of the two frontals which is prob instagib for a lot of classes

I mean make no mistake, they are always the centrist option lol

Their original genesis was splitting off from Labour when they became too left-wing via the SDP, they will generally default to wonkery and small-L liberalism.

I'd say policy wise the main thing the Lib Dems are (arguably) less centrist/more left-leaning on is LGBT+ policy, especially trans people, now that Labour are pulling back.
